“Don’t bother, Daniel. I’m perfectly capable of looking after myself. I’ve done pretty well thus far, no thanks to you.”

She turned and quickly stalked out of the room. She wasn’t going to stand there and act like nothing happened. She wasn’t Daniel’s plaything that he could use to get his jollies off and discard whenever it suited him. You were the one who orgasmed, her inner voice reminded her, but she dismissed it.

He’d enjoyed the experience; she was positive of it. He’d better have gotten his fill, because it was the last time she was allowing Daniel to come near her ever again.

CHAPTER 9

As he stood under the rainfall shower in his penthouse condo later that night, Daniel was ashamed of how far he’d allowed the evening to go. He’d intended one kiss to ease the sexual tension simmering between them. Instead, he’d found nirvana between Angela’s thighs.

He hadn’t planned for it to go that far, but he’d found it irresistible the way she’d moaned and writhed underneath him when they kissed. He’d known she was hot for him, wet for him. And she had been. He’d felt it, tasted her sweet nectar.

Glancing down, Daniel was still hard. Hard for Angela. And thanks to his thoughtless behavior, he’d probably never get near her again. He’d been just as shocked as she’d been by the turn of events, but instead of facing it, he’d tried to sweep it under the rug, which angered Angela.

The shocked look on her face when he’d offered to walk her to her car had said it all. She was over the cat-and-mouse game between them, and it would take a miracle for him to ever get that close to her again.

Damn! He’d screwed that up royally.

Why was it so hard for him to tell her how he truly felt? Which was that he found her not only attractive, but vibrant and intelligent. Instead, he’d acted like a bumbling idiot and a far cry from the player the media made him out to be.

Tonight, they’d initially discussed superficial subjects, but eventually she’d opened up to him, sharing her past with him, and he was starting to see that she could become so much more than the unemotional entanglements he’d had previously. Used to seeing avarice in women’s eyes, he’d become jaded thinking they all wanted only his wealth and material things. But Angela seemed just as content to share sushi with him at the office as she was in a VIP supper club.

Angela sat curled up on her couch with a glass of red wine. She’d opened a bottle after she showered, eager for the relaxation that a nightcap would bring.

The night had gotten out of control and she had no one to blame but herself. Yet again, she’d allowed the chemistry she shared with Daniel to negate her good sense. She knew better than to engage in an office romance with her mentor, her boss. But when he’d looked at her with eyes full of lust and when those full lips of his had touched her mouth, reason had gone out the window. Instead she’d indulged in the slowest, most sensual kiss from his wet lips and soft tongue.

No man had ever had this kind of effect on her. She’d been with other men, had been intimate with them, but Daniel disarmed her. Every time she was around him she lost her senses. It was disconcerting.

Now she was left with regret.

Where did they go from here? How did she fix this? Denying they had an attraction for each other had ended with her skirt around her waist and Daniel’s head between her legs.

Christ! She ran her fingers through her hair. This was a disaster of epic proportion. She didn’t want to lose her job or leave Cobb Luxury Real Estate. It finally felt like she’d found her place and was on the right path for her career. Only to stumble when faced with Daniel Cobb.

What was she going to do?

The next morning she got up like she always did and put on a stunning white pantsuit with her four-inch heels. Angela needed to feel confident because she wasn’t sure what she was facing at the office.

“Good morning,” she called as she walked into the office, affecting confidence.

“Wow! Someone is dressed to impress,” Myrna said as Angela swept past her. “Big meeting today? Do you need any help?”

“No, I’ve got it, Myrna. I stayed behind last night working on those comps so I would be ready, but thank you.”
