I can’t get enough.

“You feel so fucking good, angel. Fucking heaven.”

I move with purpose, pistoning in and out with both speed and force. Anything to feel more of her slick heat. She takes me so well, moaning and panting my name as she grips the edge of my desk. She is a work of art, splayed out beneath me to admire. Release is nothing short of magnificent, her pussy clenching around me as her body quakes while the tension in my muscles melts away in an instant.

I help Natalya to her feet, turning her around so she can sit on the edge of my desk. She circles my neck with her arms while I hold her firmly at the waist, helping myself to a slow, deep kiss. She hums against me, her fingers curling into my hair. A calm washes over us, a lovely, otherworldly haze.

“What are we doing?” she whispers against my lips. She smiles as she speaks, so sweet and shy.

“I don’t know,” I admit. “But I like it.”

Natalya giggles. My heart skips at the sound, so pure and joyful. “I like it, too.”

“Good,” I murmur. “I’m glad.”

“We should, um… probably not tell the others, though.”

“Why not?”

“For your reputation?” she says, arching a brow. “As an official.”

I set my jaw, a cold guilt clawing its way through my lungs. “About that… I’m not…” I lick my lips. There’s no way I can tell her the truth. Natalya will probably freak out. Leave. Both are things I absolutely don’t want. “You’re right,” I tell her. “We’ll keep this between us for now.”

Chapter 16

Natalya

Any updates?

The message from Edvard is almost three days old. I haven’t gotten around to responding. I know I probably should, but I’m honestly still a little pissed at him for the stunt he pulled with the drive-by shooting. Did he not realize the danger he would be putting me in? Not to mention Simon, Lev, and Dahlia, all of whom have literallynothingto do with this.

Besides, I thought he trusted me. Why else would he agree to send me to infiltrate the lion’s den if he felt I couldn’t get the job done? Although…

Iamdragging my feet a little bit. As strange as it sounds, I’ll admit I’ve been enjoying my time here. Dahlia is slowly turning into a wonderful friend, I find great satisfaction in taking care of Lev and making sure he has everything he needs, and getting to see Simon’s big beautiful brown eyes every morning is honestly the highlight of my day. And Dimitri…

Things between Dimitri and I are surprisingly good. Exciting, even. Thrilling.

Do I feel bad about it? Yes, of course. I don’t think there will ever be a time I won’t be conflicted about this strange new territory we’re exploring together. But I also can’t deny this burning attraction I feel toward him. How one look from across the room, or a discreet brush of his fingers against the back of my neck as he passes by, or even a quick kiss stolen while nobody else is looking leaves my insides warm and gooey.

I’m caught in his spell, and for some reason, I don’t want it to wear off. The more I get to know him, the more I want to spend time with him. Dimitri is unlike any man I’ve ever met, so many complex layers and pieces. Just when I think I’m starting to understand him, he surprises me.

Lev, Simon, and I are in the living room today. I’ve got music playing for Lev, as per usual, while Simon and I sit on his playmat. He’s an expert at crawling, but from what I’ve learned with regards to childhood development, Simon should be walking any time now. I hold him in my hands, helping him stand and get used to the sensation of being on his feet. Simon kicks his legs out with a bright laugh before plopping back down.

“Come on, sweetie,” I encourage gently. “You know you can do it.”

“Do what?” Dimitri asks me as he rounds the corner.

He’s dressed casually today in a pair of dark blue jeans and a loose black shirt, which is how I know he won’t be leaving the house. Whenever he has business to take care of, his suits are basically his uniform. He must be lying low today, and I honestly don’t blame him. The drive by was a stupid plan on Edvard’s part. Now Dimitri’s security is triple what it used to be, which means I’m going to have to be extra cautious in my dealings.

If I ever feel inclined to follow through with it, that is. I tell myself I’ve got time. There’s no need to rush now that I’ve earned his trust.

“I’m trying to teach him to stand,” I explain as Dimitri takes a seat across from me on the playmat. Warmth blooms in my chest when he reaches out to hold Simon. It touches me that he’s making an effort.

“When are kids supposed to start walking?” he asks.

“Anywhere between eight to eighteen months,” I tell him. “All children progress at their own pace, but it’s imperative we give him plenty of exercise to develop his motor skills. I could recommend a few toys, if you’d like. They’re designed to help encourage movement.”

Dimitri smiles as Simon grabs onto his forefinger with his entire hand. “Point me in the right direction and I’ll buy them all,” Dimitri tells me with a light chuckle. “Whatever Simon needs, I’ll get it for him.”
