My brother laughs. I know him well enough to understand it isn’t malicious. If anything, him making light of the situation makes me laugh, too. A little dark humor never killed anybody.

“What of the boy?” he asks.

“Good. Fine.”

“Not great timing,” he points out.

“You think?” I grumble.

“How did this even happen? Didn’t you use protection?”

I grimace. “I’d rather not discuss my sex life with you, Misha. But yes, I did. Must have been a faulty condom or something.”

“You sure Tatiana wasn’t sleeping around?”

“Yes, I’m sure. The kid looks exactly like me, but I’m still going to have a paternity test done. Just in case.”

“How are you handling the news?”

I shrug. “Honestly? I feel like a damn punching bag. I don’t know the first thing about being a father.”

“But you’re great with Sandra, Charlotte, and Frederick. They adore you.”

“Yes, but I’m theiruncle. I’m good at spoiling them rotten, but not so much the other stuff.”

“Other stuff?”

“Disciplining them. Nurturing them. Those don’t typically fall under thefun unclejob description.”

“There’s definitely a learning curve. Have you told Pyotr and Luka yet?”

My younger fraternal twin, Pyotr, and youngest brother, Luka, both decided to return to New York after our big showdown with Konstantin roughly five years ago. Someone had to take care of the cybersecurity business Mikhail and I left behind.

“I texted Luka last night,” I explain. “Little shit left me on read.”

“Unsurprising.”

“And Pyotr called me just to laugh, though he did say afterward he’d be sending some toys for the kid. Mentioned something about never sticking your dick in crazy.’”

“Also unsurprising.” Mikhail’s expression morphs into something far more serious. “It seems you’ve got your hands full. How’s Father doing? I’d have him here, but I have people coming and going and I’m worried it would be too disruptive for him.”

“He’s doing well. Better.” I glance out the window. It’s almost noon, by the look of things.

“Who’s watching him now?”

“My housekeeper.”

“Is she qualified?”

“No. I thought I could keep an eye on him, but that was before the baby arrived. I’ll need to look into hiring a nanny.”

My brother arches a skeptical brow. “You’re going to have to vet them thoroughly.”

“Yes, I know.”

And God, do I ever. Whoever tried to blow me to smithereens is still out there. Now isn’t an ideal time to bring someone new into my home, but I really don’t have much of a choice. My team’s going to have to conduct a thorough background check before I bring anyone on.

“Are you still okay to join me during negotiations with the Rachmans?” my brother asks. “I can give you the time off if—”
