“Are you sure the two of you can’t stay a while longer?” Natalya asks.

I nod. “You know Pyotr. Always down to business. It’s a miracle he’s lasted this long being away from CyberFort. I’m sure he’s eager to get back to work. Luka’s been managing things in his place, but I’m sure my husband would much rather be running things himself.”

As if on cue, Pyotr arrives with a plate full of fresh fruit for me. He sits on the wooden arm of the chair I’m in, leaning down to press a kiss to the top of my head.

“I just got a call,” he informs me. “Our flight is scheduled for first thing in the morning.”

I smile up at him, my heart full and my soul soothed. “I can’t wait,” I tell him.

Chapter 40

Pyotr

“This feels familiar,” I mumble as we board my private jet. The last time Alina and I were on this plane was the day we were leaving Moscow after our rushed wedding at city hall.

Alina laughs as she takes her seat. “Do you think we’ll have to deal with turbulence this time?”

“Probably.”

“I guess you’ll have to hold me tight.”

“With pleasure, wife.”

It isn’t long before we take off. The jet engines roar to life as we go speeding down the runaway. Alina excitedly watches out the window as we take off, Moscow becoming smaller and smaller the higher we ascend. We’re well above the clouds now. There’s something almost wistful in her green eyes, a look of bittersweet contemplation.

“Are you going to miss it?” I ask her. “Maybe get a little homesick?”

She shakes her head. “No. My home is with you.”

I can’t help but chuckle. “Come here, lyubimaya.”

Alina undoes her seatbelt and crosses the short distance between our seats, settling onto my lap with a kittenish smile. I cradle her in my arms, breathing in the wonderful scent of lavender I’ve come to know and love.

“What’s going to happen now?” she asks, resting her cheek against my shoulder.

“Now, I’m going to take you back to New York. I’m going to love you and our child with every ounce of my being. You two are my only priority.”

I adore the way her face turns pink. There’s honestly nothing cuter than when she blushes. I think it’s the way her nose scrunches up when she’s embarrassed, or the way Alina can barely look me in the eye when I shower her with compliments. She’s just so precious, my gorgeous wife. I’ll happily spend the rest of my life finding new ways to make her blush.

“So,” she says, nibbling on her bottom lip. “We have ten hours to kill. I wonder how we should pass the time.”

My eyes flit down to her lips. She’s deliberately baiting me, but I don’t care. I don’t think I can keep my hands off her for a second longer.

“Have you ever heard of the mile high club?” I ask her suggestively.

Alina giggles, her cheeks turning an even brighter red. “Oh, Pyotr…”

“Is that a no?”

She circles her arms around my neck and presses her lips to mine. “I had no idea my husband was such a daredevil,” she says, smiling into our kiss. “How exactly do we join?”

I grip her hungrily by the hips, helping her get settled on my lap. “Just like this.”

We quickly devolve into a tangle of arms and legs. The high altitude and thin oxygen make for a surprisingly delightful experience. I’m delightfully dizzy, totally consumed by my craving for her.

“Thank God I can afford a private jet,” I grumble against the crook of her neck, my hands slipping beneath her shirt hastily.

“Why?” she asks breathlessly, rolling her hips against my growing erection.
