My brow shot up. She blushed, stepped back again, and said, “Not those.”

“Not tonight, but now I want some.” I tapped into that side of me she let run free around her.

Then my spine stiffened as one of the geek squad said, “Momma, can we get some more of that one brand of almond milk?”

She smiled and said, “Of course, sweetie. Put it on the list.”

She looked at me and winked. He went right to the kitchen and did what she told him to do. They had unloaded the truck in an orderly fashion because she told them to. They posted up without much direction, followed all of her orders, and…damn, she had control of this house.

I was almost happy to see Cass enter looking like a cross between a Playboy bunny and our bunnies since she had taken to wearing bunny ears but that was for her man, not because we had them in ears. She said to Harpy, “It’s clearing up.”

Harpy nodded. My head tilted. Cass looked over at me and said, “A rash. It’s the costumes. He’s got an allergy test so we can figure out what—”

I walked away without letting her finish. I headed off toward my room. I needed to get to that meeting. I needed to settle up with the reason the thirty-four guys that lived here in addition to myself and Tituss had not been aggravating the shit out of us with all this nonsense lately was that they saw her as the gatekeeper, and she had been casually, silently, figuring out how to endear them to her.

Fucking Harpy. Yeah…shit. Would that be better or worse if she got control over the entire frat’s…I couldn’t deal with it tonight.

Several hours later, after a walk-through of a few new plays since Tituss was in the QB spot, I really couldn’t deal with the image on my screen. Tituss moved next to me, and I couldn’t get rid of it fast enough for him not to see.

“She looks good like that. Always looks good in photographs. Sweet, wholesome.” He looked up at me. “But we know better, right?”

I nodded. I clicked the phone and put it back in my pocket. I asked, “You drive?”

“Yup. You?” he asked.

I shook my head. “Rode with a few others.”

I was riding back with him, though.

Chapter Twenty-Three

Tituss

She had sent him a picture of them reading in his bed. That kid was adorable, and so was that woman. He was catching feelings for her, and since he had this whole situation where he thought he did not have those feelings, it was messing him up some. I could tell.

“Apollo said he is sending her proposal on Monday. I think it’s a good thing.” I rolled my shoulder. Did I like the idea of sharing her? Nope. Thought sharing her with him was going to help me care less, but it turned out I…cared the same amount.

“She’s dangerous.” He shook his head.

“Yeah. Well. After that meeting, I don’t think she’s the one we have to worry about. I mean, I always sensed it…on some level, but…” I wouldn’t say it out loud.

“No. I get it. I thought football was going to be my way out. Then…Rip and…I’m making sure he has an out. He won’t grow up and inherit my debts.” Dane looked at me, and I nodded.

We entered the frat house, and Dane went to his bedroom where Harpy and Rip were. I went to my room and looked at my phone. I was avoiding Jem the best I could. I texted, letting her know we knew, and it was fine. I had a game to focus on. She was thrilled I was okay, but fortunately, four states away at college, so I had no worries about my future wife popping in on me.

I took a shower, but as I stepped into my room, I picked up the phone to find a face-to-face call was coming in. So was Harpy. I grabbed the phone, but that just accepted the call by accident.

“Hey!” Jem said, all cheery. Harpy froze.

“Hi. Uh…I uh…just got out of the shower.” I moved so I could see both of them, and they could not see each other.

“Hmmm. Bet you could use a little stress relief in your life right now, couldn’t you?” she asked.

Harpy’s brows went up and instead of leaving, bolting, storming out of there like I expected her to, she seemed a bit intrigued, and that surprise must have shown on my face because Jem giggled and said, “Let’s have some fun, Tituss. I haven’t seen you in months.”

“It’s been a couple weeks.” I did give her my full attention because, come on, drama much?

She closed her eyes and said, “It feels like an eternity.”
