“And Harpy is coming home with me for Thanksgiving.” He looked up at her. “Tell them because they are going to find out when I show up with a date.”

She was about to throw a temper tantrum. The wind-up of noises, the balled-up fists, and then the stomping as she prepared to say something made me snicker.

Tituss beat her to it, though. He asked Dane, “What?”

“I have to go home. I have Rip. Is she going home with you?” he asked. I gulped that drink. I needed it. I left the sanctuary of my room for this. This was hell, and Dane was the devil. Not me. He was making everyone miserable in short order. His hand slid up my thigh, and he gripped and said, “I’m not leaving her here alone when she can come home with me.”

“We still have to get through Halloween, okay.” I looked at Tituss. Truth was, I couldn’t go home with him. He had a girl who would likely be there and expecting his full attention. His parents actually hated me, and with good reason since his love for me ruined his future and landed him here. With me. I knew that made me happy, but I guess my smile was enough to make him wonder what I was thinking. He mouthed the question, and I said, “I’ll tell you later. This is good.”

I took another decent gulp and finished the drink. I placed the cup on the table and said, “I might need another one.”

Essie stomped off, and Tituss pulled up a seat as Dane pulled me closer to his chest. Tituss said, “Nice hoodie. Seem to be wearing that more often.”

I was feeling way too good to care about their little rivalry where I was concerned. Was it my fault I couldn’t support him this way? Well, I didn’t want to think about that either. It was my mother’s fault. I snuggled up to Dane’s chest and he wrapped me in a hug, holding me there on his lap.

Chapter Forty

Tituss

This motherfucker right here. Harpy was all warm and snuggly in his lap, and Dane was gloating. She closed her eyes, and I knew a few moments later, when her favorite, or what used to be her favorite song, came on, she was asleep. “She’s not twenty-one.”

“Oh, please.” He rolled his eyes. “She asleep?”

I nodded. He smiled. He picked her up and said, “My bed.”

I scoffed as I got up and walked with him. As I held the door open and followed him to his room, I asked, “Did you do that on purpose?”

“Get a girl drunk so I could sleep with her? Yeah. I did. Plenty of guys out there doing the same thing.” He snickered. “Except. I just want to sleep with her.”

And she had been staying in her room lately, not with either of us. I hated his conniving brain sometimes. “Damn.”

“You can stay.” He situated her and then undressed to his briefs. He pulled the hoodie off, left the tank top on, and then removed the skirt as Harpy shifted and settled in his bed.

I stripped down to my underwear, walked over, locked his door. We didn’t have the code to her bedroom, so we couldn’t just go crawl into her bed. Her phone lit up, and he looked at it. “Who?”

“Apollo.” He clicked it and put it back on his nightstand next to his own. “He’s looking for her.”

“Of course, he is.” I was looking at her as Dane pulled her back flush against his chest. “That’s fucked up.”

He yawned and settled. “Yeah, it is. He’s got serious problems.”

Like we didn’t. “I meant you pulling her all the way to you like that.”

He motioned with his hand and said, “Come on, you can come closer. At this point…yeah, I am not bothered by being close to you.”

I wasn’t bothered being close to him anymore, either. Yeah, with Harpy between us figurative and literally, we had pushed past those boundaries and then some. He was still such a dick, though. I settled my head at her breasts, and right as I was about to close my eyes, he pushed his hand in my hair and snickered before pulling it back because I swatted at it.

I pushed my knee between hers, and that meant pushing his back. He said, “I was just messing with you that’s—” He shifted his knee forward. I couldn’t get her perched all the way like I preferred, but this was a new arrangement.

She moved her arm, and it wrapped around me. We settled. The last thing we wanted was for her to wake up and go back to her own room. We were absolutely taking advantage of her. Just not the way she would like for us to.

Chapter Forty-One

Dane

Harpy was pissed at us this morning. She pointed at us, still in the bed, and said, “I can’t believe you did that!”

I had done so many things to her body it was a bit comical that this is where she drew a hard line.
