“That’s Mum’s ring,” I whispered, cupping my hands over my mouth. “How? Where?”

He smiled. “I had lunch with your dad and grandma about a month ago. I told them I wanted to ask you to marry me and asked for their blessing. They gave it, and with it, they handed me your mum’s ring and said they’d been keeping close, just in case. I saw it and knew it was perfect for you.”

Tears filled my eyes. “I love you so much.”

“I know you do, darling, but you still haven’t answered me, and there’s a stone cutting into my knee, so might you make a decision sooner rather than later?”.”

I laughed and cried at the same time, nodding my head. We both stood up together, and he pulled me into the biggest, tightest hug until I felt like I couldn’t breathe anymore.

And I didn’t care.

Because I had never been this happy in my entire life, and I couldn’t imagine how I ever would be again.

“Look at that,” William murmured into my ear. “I told you I’d marry you, didn’t I?”

“Oh, piss off.”

The End
