Page 68 of Tearing You Apart

I was so close, but I didn’t want to give in.

“You first,” I grunted.

Another nuzzle, another bite. He drew it out, pulling and pushing into me so slowly that I had to stop stroking, so close to losing it. He was driving me crazy, but a different kind, the good kind.

He couldn’t hold on. With a moan, he came, and I felt him pouring into me, his warmth filling me like he was coming home. I let go with one last stroke and came undone.

He held me, whispering in my ear. “You are so beautiful.” I tried not to hear, but his words arrowed straight to my heart. “You’re the most amazing thing that’s ever happened to me.” This bittersweet ache of pain and joy was tearing me apart. “Cat, I love you.”

A tear slipped down my cheek, and I hated him. I was still coming, and he held me, massaging my nipple and pouring these words over me, sealing this in my memory.

I was lost. Every part of my resistance fell away, and I was exposed, lying here and looking at the purple tapestry on my bedroom wall. This was it. This is what we were made for. For each other — to merge and blend like this. I felt raw, complete, full in every way, and it was only because the man behind me had shown me his truth. I knew as soon as I looked into his eyes, I would forgive him. There was no place for me to hide anymore.

Max

Iwas half-awake, mooning over Cat as she slept. If I could freeze time, it would be here so I could spend forever in her arms and never worry about the future.

I was content to lie here and run my eyes over her back, her chest rising and falling with each deep breath she took. The lines of her shoulder, the gentle curve of her shoulder blade, the ginger freckles scattered along her spine.

I fed my arm over her hip and inched closer, dipping my mouth to her ear. “I love you.”

I could finally say it and watch the corner of her mouth curve into a smile. She sighed gently and shuffled back into me. I’d never grow tired of this. The shape of her, her bare skin, her vulnerability as she slept.

Steve always described himself as ‘the luckiest guy in the world’ when he met Liv and swore she was the reason he lived. I couldn’t think of a better way to define the complete feeling of peace that had settled over me as I watched her. Nothing could measure up to this.

My eyes flicked to the clock. We’d spent the whole day in bed. Two days away from the studio. I knew Carl and the guys would be pissed I’d skipped out on recording, especially when I was the one who promised the execs we’d get it done before the tour.

I regretfully shifted away from Cat, scrambling for my phone in my jeans. I needed to call them, at least let them know I hadn’t done a Goss and gone on a cocaine-fuelled rampage, ending up passed out in a brothel. I bent over the side of the bed, groaning as the hot sex and lazy cuddling caught up with me. My body ached deliciously. When was the last time I’d felt this good?

As soon as I looked at the screen, it lit up. Fucking Bunny. I blew out a sigh. We had another pre-wedding shoot, and I’d forgotten.

I leant over, placing a gentle kiss on Cat’s forehead, loving the way she pushed into me and tried to drag me back to her. “I’ll be back in a minute, love.”

She murmured a reply, but it was lost in her sleepy haze.

Naked, I left the room, swiping to answer before holding the phone to my ear, Bunny’s screech deafening me. “Where are you?”

She sounded seriously pissed. From the way her voice echoed, she must have found a broom closet or something, so people didn’t get the wrong idea. It would be terrible if people discovered the true Bun Bun.

“I’m busy.”

There was no chance I was leaving Cat when her skin was still warm. I wanted to think our passionate lovemaking kept her running hot, but I was sure she still had a touch of fever.

“You needed to be here five minutes ago.” Bun was bordering on snarling.

I’d never been on the receiving end of one of her meltdowns, but it sounded like that could change.

“I’m not coming.”

There was a beat of silence. I could feel the clogs whirring in her mind.

“You’re with Cat, aren’t you?”

“That’s none of your business.”

“You’re making it my business by fucking around like this. Oh my God, Max, I can’t believe you. You literally signed a contract. You’re meant to be here.”

“You know what? I don’t care anymore. This has gone on long enough.”
