“We’ll just have to shuffle her to next month.”

“What will you do with her in the meantime? Keep her here?”

He paced. “Perhaps I’ll fly her to the islands.”

“Christina is there.”

“I realize that. I’ll bring the yacht over and keep Asia there. I can contain her better on the boat, anyway.”

“Very well. I’ll see it’s taken care of. Regarding this month’s auction, I’ve got a lead on another girl, if you want to fill her spot.”

That caught his attention, and he stopped pacing. “Good. Arrange a meeting. Work it the same way as usual. Drinks at the Carlyle.”

“Of course.”

“It’ll have to be rushed. The auction is next week.”

“It’s what you’re good at, darling.”

“What’s this one look like?”

Giselle leaned forward and tamped out her cigarette, then slipped on her heels and stood. “Young and innocent, just like always.”

“Good. Very good. I always can count on your judgment, Giselle. Where would I be without you?”

She picked up her bag and headed toward the door. “Hustling on the streets of Rio, where I found you, dear boy.”

“Hey…” His words stopped her with her hand on the knob. “Those were the days, huh? We’ve come a long way since then.”

She only gave him a smile before exiting. He drew in a deep breath. She’d fix everything. She always did.

CHAPTER FIVE

The private jet taxied to a stop, and Asia stared out the window at the island palm trees of St. Thomas. She’d been thrilled when Nico told her he was flying her to the Virgin Islands to see his favorite estate, but the trip had been long, and she was tired. It seemed she was always tired. She didn’t know what was wrong with her. Perhaps she needed to take some vitamins. She’d have to ask Nico once they were settled.

He stood and helped her to her feet. Her ankle was still tender.

“How are you feeling, darling?” he asked.

“I’m fine. Excited to see your home.”

“It will beourhome soon, won’t it?” he corrected and kissed her cheek.

“Yes, I suppose it will be.”

“Perhaps we could hold the wedding there, if you like it.”

“Oh, that would be divine. I’ve always loved beach weddings. Well, I haven’t actually been to one, but they always look so romantic in pictures.”

“Well, it can be hot, and the beach is a bit rocky, but the pool deck would be lovely.” He kissed her forehead. “Whatever you desire, my love. I just want it to be the best day of your life.”

Asia leaned against him. “You spoil me so.”

“Get used to it. I plan to do it for the rest of your life.” He wrapped an arm around her waist. “Come. Lean on me. I’ll help you down the stairs. We’ve one more leg of our journey.”

“What do you mean? Aren’t we here?”

“The island of St. John has no airstrip and can only be reached by boat or helicopter.” He helped her down the stairs, and she looked over at the waiting helicopter.
