“What did you say?” Dusty almost came out of his chair.

“The feds haven’t been able to get any proof. They’ve been trying to get someone on the inside for almost a year, but have been unsuccessful.”

“What makes them think he’s involved in something like that?” Al asked.

“They’ve had some tips. They think he works with a woman named Giselle Winstead who finds and befriends suitable young girls, then introduces them to Nico. He asks them on a date, wines and dines them, makes them believe he’s falling for them. Even proposes to some of them.”

“Why go to all that trouble? Is he shipping them off to Brazil?” Al asked.

“He auctions them off to the highest bidders. The players are wealthy men from all over the world. Billionaires, Arab sheiks, Russian oligarchs… He has connections everywhere. His auctions are extremely exclusive. The feds haven’t been able to crack it.”

“Auctions them off? That’s crazy shit,” Grady murmured.

“He plays to a particular kink and demands top dollar.”

“What’s that?” Dusty asked, his stomach knotted, afraid he already knew the answer.

“They’re all virgins.”

Stan pulled the straw from his mouth. “No shit?”

Chris nodded. “That’s the story.”

“What’s our involvement in this?” Grady leaned forward.

Chris connected eyes with Dusty again, then threw another photo on the screen. “This is his latest target. Well, one of them. The feds say he auctions off four women on the fifteenth of every month.”

Stan elbowed Dusty in the side. “Bro, isn’t that the chick from your wallet?”

Dusty nodded once, his throat too tight for words.

Stan pulled the straw from his mouth again, his expression turning serious as he drawled out his next word. “Fuck.”

Chris glanced at them all. “Men, listen up.”

The room quieted.

“Her name is Asia Fox, and her brother, Carter, contacted Dusty. He’s an old friend of the family, and so Dusty asked me to look into this.”

“What can we do?” Grady asked. “What’s the assignment?”

“My friend in the FBI thinks they’ve got a mole. Seems like Amorosi is always being tipped off. That’s why he flew here to talk to me personally. The feds can’t get on the inside, but we’re the unknown. I think we can succeed where they’ve failed. The plan is we get someone on the inside, someone as a bidder.”

“Who?” Al asked.

“Me,” Dusty volunteered, staring Chris down and daring him to argue.

“You think we can pull that off?” Stan looked between the two men.

“The feds can get us a fake identity, right down to the big bank account.”

“Look, Chris,” Dusty started, splaying his hands. “I appreciate you looking into this for me, but the family can’t afford to hire Tri Star.”

“We’re doing this one for free.”

Stan huffed out a laugh, pulling the brim of hisTexas Longhornsball cap low. “Since when do we do anything for free?”

“I don’t make it a habit, but I can’t abide shit like this. I’ve got no stomach for it. Besides, this is personal for one of us. That makes it personal for all of us.”
