“What the fuck are you looking at?” She sneers, and it doesn’t even take a second for Sebastian to transform his face in that cold gaze again.

“Absolutely nothing, Moreen.” Sebastian’s tone of voice matches his wife’s. I shake my head, wondering how they got this far without killing each other.

“Mummy, you look beautiful,” Livia squeals, stumbling to her feet before running to her mother. Moreen has a chequered suit on with a pearl-coloured camisole underneath it.

“Oh, thank you, baby.” Moreen drops a kiss on her daughter’s dark brown hair.

“But I think you look like a real princess,” Moreen says, and it’s only with her daughter that a different Moreen shows up. A happy one, and I assume everyone around her wants to see her eyes shine that bright every hour of the day.

Sebastian stands up from the floor and grabs Livia’s coat off the couch. He sighs before turning my way.

“Is Evangeline worth it to go through heartbreak afterwards?” he asks quietly.

“Yes,” I say confidently.

“Then go for it,” Sebastian mumbles before sneaking a glance at Moreen.

And Iammost definitely going for it because I have no time to lose. Five more weeks and she’ll be married. I’m on a deadline, and for once, I ignore that stubborn scared child whispering that relationships are nothing but trouble.

I can’t listen to it now because I’ll only lose more precious time.

“Livia, put on your coat.” Sebastian holds out the brown denim jacket as Livia tries to skip to Sebastian in her poofy yellow dress. Sebastian helps her put on her coat.

He swings her up from the floor before nodding his head at Moreen.

“Let’s go.”

“Are you bringing Livia to Apollo’s anniversary party?” I ask curiously. Moreen pulls up one corner of her mouth before scrunching up her nose.

“No, are you stupid? We’re dropping her off at Sebastian’s parents’ and you need to get out of here to put on something decent.” I eye my outfit, wondering what she’s talking about. It’s a suit. It could pass for any type of social function.

“Change, Chester. That’s an order,” Moreen says loudly, following her family to the front door, and I shoot from the couch before I’m locked in the home of a very dysfunctional couple.

Chapter Twenty-five

Evangeline

Ipull the front door closed behind me, but in my overexcitement, I slam it shut. My body is vibrating from excitement, which has overtaken the rest of my emotions since this morning. It kept me up for hours last night, and I imagined a variety of different dates and activities.

They ranged from dinner dates in a park to getting matching tattoos. My creativity knew no limits, and I would sign up for all of them just as long as Chester’s there with me. But now, my stomach is fluttering from nerves and the thing that hasn’t stopped me from smiling… excitement.

I can barely contain it, and my smile is large and unable to be removed.

Nothing will stop me from having the time of my life for as long as I can.

“Princess, you’re late,” a voice yells from the other side of the road. My heart skips a beat when I hear Chester’s words. I try to push back my smile to play it cool, at least a little bit, but I truly feel like a child in a candy store. It may be a ridiculous reaction, but I just don’t have it in me to care.

“I’m not,” I yell back, knowing that it’s way past 8 o’clock.

I cross the street, and I see Chester waiting on the pavement in front of his house. He has both hands in his pockets, pulling down his dark grey trousers. He looks perfect, smart, and regal. He has a white dress shirt underneath his grey jacket with a few buttons at the top unbuttoned.

He looks relaxed and maybe a bit more than I am, but still, that vibrant smile is on his face.

Be still,my heart.

“Princess,” he says, and my smile grows larger, if that’s even possible. “Now that’s a…”

“Jumpsuit,” I finish his sentence before stopping in front of him. His eyes skip over my body, and even though I vowed to keep my cheeks from blushing, I can’t control the effects Chester has on my body. Those eyes are filled with hunger as they roam over my body ever so slowly.
