“Hmmm.” He pretends to think. “Well, I guess you know where to find me now.”

The club.

“When will you be there next?”

“Wednesday night. Now that you have my name, ask for me, and my staff will take you up to my lounge.”

“Yourstaff?”

“My club. I own it with a friend.”

“Wow.” Now I’m more confident that bouncer knew exactly who I was talking about, but he gave a good show of acting like he was none the wiser. It doesn’t matter now.

“See you around, Serenity Bell.”

Dante turns, and I watch him go.

I stare until I can’t see him anymore. Then I think.

Wednesday.

I could see him if I wanted to on Wednesday.

Wait. Wednesday is that damn dinner. Ugh.

But theoretically, that shouldn’t stop me. I could still go to the club, but I’d need to play it by ear. It would depend on when dinner finished. Our family dinners are more like mini-parties—so it’s never always just the family. Dad and Melissa love inviting business associates and anyone they can show off their wealth to.

There’s a sit-down dinner first, before we mingle the way you literally would at a function.

Perhaps I could stay for as long as I can then leave and still have time to go to the club. I just wouldn’t want to get there too late.

My gosh, am I really considering this?

And to practically defy my father?

Maybe…

ChapterNine

Dante

I speed down the road on my Ninja 650, allowing the sound of the roaring engine to dull the memory of Serenity Bell from my mind.

It’s helping in the sense that I can hear it, but that is all.

With my dick barely under control, listening to the hum of Kawasaki’s latest motorcycle engine is as effective as having a drink to forget your problems, but when you sober up, the problems are very much still there.

I was only supposed to spend a few minutes with her.Touching base.

The plan was to let her know I’d gotten her message, and to take one last look at her in real life.

Essentially, the goal was to end my fascination with one final encounter.

Even I, a soulless being with a cold, black heart, knew it would be wrong to get involved with her when I want her father dead.

But instead of ending anything, I gave in to the desire for a girl I know I should leave well enough alone.

With the havoc I plan to wreck on her father, I shouldn't want to see Serenity again. I definitely shouldn’t have invited her to the club to see me mere seconds after warning her away.
