ChapterThirteen

Serenity

My heart is beating so fast at the prospect of dancing with Dante I can

barely breathe.

His large warm hand covering mine sends shivers of excitement racing up and down my body. I can just about manage to walk in a straight line next to him, keeping up with his powerful stride.

I can’t remember the last time I felt this type of excitement, or if I’ve ever felt it at all.

Dante leads me down to the dance floor, where several eyes follow us. I realize it’s because I’m with him. The most popular person here ishimbecause he’s the owner, and even if you didn’t know that, you’d still stare at him because he has the sort of look that commands attention from everyone.

It makes me wonder if he doesn’t do this often—dance.

The thought makes me feel a little more special. Even if it’s not true, for tonight, I can pretend it is.

The moment we step onto the dance floor, immersing ourselves in the sea of dancing bodies, my stomach tightens and the nest of butterflies living in the pit goes crazy.

Only nights ago, I was here with Harper. I felt like I was in some kind of fantasy as Dante watched me dance. I acted the way I would if I were in a dream because you know it’s not real, but you’re allowed to do whatever you want.

Now the fantasy has crossed over into reality, but Harper’s not here and Dante isn’t the mysterious stranger watching me from afar.

He’s right beside me, holding my hand as if I’m his and this is something we always do.

Walking tall and proud, he leads me through the crowd, and people part for him like the Red Sea did for Moses. When we find a clear space, he stops, then faces me and slips an arm around my waist, pulling me closer until I’m pressed right up against the granite walls of his chest.

His kiss was consuming, but this is something else entirely. I’m so close there’s no distinction between his heartbeat and mine. Except mine is the one that’s going a hundred miles an hour.

He smiles and starts swaying with me to the slow but upbeat music.

The volume dips on the bass, and he lowers his mouth to my ear.

“Don’t go shy on me now, Printsessa.” He takes my hand and molds my fingers to his chest. “I’m here now.”

I give him a nervous smile. “That makes it different.”

He pulls back so he can look at me and gives me a devilish grin. “That’s the idea. Now I can touch you.”

Dangerous heat coils through me when hunger fills his eyes. The intensity sends pleasure pulsing through my veins and moisture beading between my thighs.

“Dance with me,” he orders in a low voice.

I nod, pushing aside my reservations, then we really start dancing. And it’s electric.

That spark I felt before coursing between us ignites, and our bodies move together like we were made for each other.

I didn’t expect Dante to be such a good dancer, but he is. It makes dancing with him more fun, freeing, thrilling.

We enjoy each other and move to the music, allowing the rhythm to take us wherever it wants.

We dance like that for several songs before the music changes to the same smooth sensual club mix that was playing Friday night.

Dante smiles at me, showing he remembers and pulls me close again.

This time, I’m more aware of his hands on my body and the way I’m feeling. The music pulses through me, but so does his touch.

He dips back with me, his hand trailing down to my waist as if he's ready to undress me here on the dance floor. The more intimate touch makes me lose control over my body, following his lead like I’m programmed to do so forever.
