“I need you to leave me. Because I’m a fucking selfish asshole who’s too weak to do what has to be done.”

Placing my palm on his cheek, I brush my nose against his. “I will stay.”

I slide out of bed, shower, and get changed. Meanwhile, he lies propped against the headboard, his eyes on me.

“Don’t be stubborn.”

“I don’t want to fight.”

“I won’t change my mind.”

“I won’t sign it.”

We smile at each other, each of us mumbling, “Stubborn” at the other.

The drive to Kieran and Aurora’s house for my girls’ night is spent with me trying to find out how to make Cato see I won’t leave.

The driver parks the car, and I step inside the huge mansion. Aurora and Alessandra greet me in the hallway, hugging me.

We walk down the corridor and enter a theater room. A bucket of popcorn and drinks sit on the table. And this is how we spend the night, tearing up overThe Notebook, and eating way too much.

“So, you and Cato?”

“He is spending more time at the compound.”

“And it bothers you?” Alessandra asks.

“He does it on purpose.”

“Let’s go see what our men are doing,” Aurora says.

We get ready and Aurora drives us away in her tank of a car. Kieran would wrap her in bubble wrap if he physically could do it.

We park, and she rings David. He shakes his head at us but lets us in while the guards stand on high alert. Oh, there is a party. Good for us, we dressed for the occasion.

Aurora strides straight in, while my heart is in the gutter, but I force my legs to carry me. He better not be doing something stupid. Something we can’t come back from. I know I said I was going to kill him, but I really don’t want to.

Inside, there must be around thirty men and women, a sensual beat echoing around us, dim lights and satin couches. The waitresses wearing sexy lingerie. If I think of a visual for debauchery, this would be it.

I see Cameron first, speaking to a man. And Hayden and Cato are in a deep conversation in the corner, and there are two women near to them, as if waiting for them to finish. Alessandra stiffens next to me.

Kieran appears from around the corner with two of his men, and his face changes when he finds Aurora. He completely ignores what’s going on as he strides to us and lifts her in his arms, causing her to squeal.

“I was just heading home. Picking me up?” he flirts, and she bites down on her lip.

“Bye.” She waves at us, and they disappear in the elevator.

We stay in a different corner, watching the party, of course, and not the men in the other corner, like two hawks.

I feel him watching me. It’s in the slight raise of his lips, the way my body hums whenever he’s nearby.

“They know we’re here,” she says, and I nod.

Two men appear, but before they can even open their mouths, two guards jerk their chin, and they scamper away.

I whip my head, finding Cato’s intense stormy eyes. I turn on my heel and stumble into a hard chest. Champagne drenches my front and a bespoke jacket. I raise my gaze, and the man smiles, as if to reassure me it’s okay.
