“Now that I have your attention, please take a seat.”

A man opens his mouth to surely threaten me, when the eldest and most powerful of them raises his hand.

“He deserves respect for getting this far, gentlemen and ladies.”

There is an uproar, and I tip my flute to him.

“Consider me intrigued.”

“Do not make me question your intelligence.”

Another uproar follows, and he says, “You have no manners.”

“I have no patience for bullshit.”

His pale lips arch into an almost smile, and I go on, “In all my business endeavors, I make sure the players know what will await them if they disrespect the agreement.”

“A man of your word.”

“It’s what brought me here, and for men and women posing as gentlemen and ladies, your words mean shit.” How I wish to kill them all, but the empty place they would leave would be fought over and that would cause even more ripples in our world. Fucking compromises.

“Open your folders.”

They flip through the pages, and like clockwork, they all tense up. The eldest taps his fingers on his lips, a muscle in his jaw tics with unbridled anger.

“Where did you get these?”

It’s documents of their accounts, all their properties, and businesses. And most importantly, all the transactions. From human trafficking, drugs, to supporting rebellions so they can get influence in those countries that hold appeal to them from oil to diamonds, they have their share in everything. And if that news comes out, they’d all be finished.

“Ally or enemy, you decide.”

I raise my glass, and a woman shouts at Luciana, “How is this possible?”

She flinches and whispers, “I don’t know.”

“We basically own that continent, from one border to the other. Nothing stays hidden from us. We have the best intel. Our reach spans worldwide. This is your only warning.”

“If this should be the start of an alliance, you should probably return what you took from us.”

“I won’t. Crossing me, my family, comes at a price. Paying it would mean you accept our collaboration rules.”

After curses explode and fists pound on the table, the eldest raises a hand, and the ruckus dims.

“How do you see this going?”

“You want access to a bigger market. I can offer that, the exception is human trafficking. My family, my partners, will not stand for it. Doing business with us will make you richer, while you can continue operating from the shadows.” But they all get the message from their stiff position. We’ll have control over them.

“As you did your homework, you know we have to vote.”

“Do that, but there is one thing I need. The one who gave the hit order, who was behind hacking my car, and helping Delaney and Silas.” A few look stealthily at a member, revealing he’s the one behind the hit.

Kieran would have been here, but it was my revenge, as they fucking tried to take me out. And we decided one of us will always remain protecting the women after all the shit we went through the last time.

“I won’t leave until I get what I want. If you disagree, it will be a bloodbath and financial losses in numbers you can’t even imagine.”

I stand up, and Hayden moves out of the room after me, shutting the door. “Quite entertaining, but still disappointing. I expected at least a heart attack.”

We step inside the office and watch all twelve members argue through the strategically placed cameras in the room. The head of the Council leans back, steepling his fingers against his mouth while the others throw accusations of incompetence, shouting and cursing. People like them don’t forget, but the alternative is too volatile.
