“Aww, I am the best for you?”

“You are.”

He pins me to the sand and kisses me, then flicks my top and thong off.

“Let me have you. You’re mine, just mine.”

Times flows differently here. It could be days, it could be just hours, but life without phones, without being reachable, infuses me with peace. I am reconnected to a visceral part of myself. Just me and him, our love and hunger for each other as we discover one island after the other. Every island has something charming, ancient places we discover, two tourists getting lost among others. This is not what our lives will ever look like, simple, serene. Perhaps that is why I enjoy it so much. But we will return, and I am ready to live this life, shiny and glamorous on the outside, wretched and bloody behind the curtains.

“I want this, at least once a year,” I say to him in bed, while the moon peers behind the large windows after he’s made love to me.

“Anything you want,cara.”

It’s as if those four words are his credo, a motto he lives by. It fills me with warm and fuzzy emotions, feeling as if I am the middle point, the compass to his life, and it humbles me.

I wake up and pat the spot next to me. And even though I’m barely awake, I know he’s not here next to me. It’s in the hole expanding in my chest, which closes only when I see him again.

I pick up his shirt and find him at the edge of the property, on a cliff, watching the sea expanding under him, a mountain of a man on a hill with his hands tucked in the pocket of his shorts, and his bare chest glistening in the rising sun.

Cato turns his head to me, catching me ogling him, and I shrug unapologetically.

He jerks his chin to approach him and when I’m in touching distance, he pulls me to his chest. With his chin on my shoulder, we watch the sun take over the sky.

At the breakfast table, he smears some jam on a slice of bread and I add white cheese on it. He scrunches his nose.

“Have you tasted it? This is the best combination ever.”

He takes a bite and chews it as if he’s eating rubber.

I try again with eating just melon and cheese and bread.

“You’re going to be sick.”

I moan and he smiles with a shake of his head, totally lost in me.

After breakfast, we take the yacht out, exploring more of the islands, sunbathing, diving into the crystal blue water with our diving suits, snorkeling. I am fascinated by the bank of fish and coral reefs. There’s a whole new world here and I get to discover it with him. When we resurface, he helps me on the dock and the food is brought to us.

He looks mouthwatering in just his black shorts, his muscled body on display. When he slides his hand through his hair, my ovaries might explode in appreciation of my fine specimen of a man. He bites into a strawberry, and I open my mouth, wanting my lips where his were. Dipping one in chocolate, he feeds me.

“There is a party tonight.” Mischief glows in his eyes.

“What kind of a party?”

“A party where no one sees the other.”

“With masks and such?”

“With masks and such.”

I bite down on my lower lip, blushing in anticipation.

I let my hair down in loose curls and slip into a black dress that has more slits than material. Cato crosses his arms, his eyebrows shooting to his roots.

“What, you said no one will know who we are?”
