“I made your favorite dessert,” my mother says. Despite having all the staff money could pay for, my mother still enjoys cooking for her family. Dario groans.

“When I asked you last week to make me Tiramisu, you didn’t.”

“I am her favorite.” I wink at him, and Mother lets out a flustered sigh.

“I don’t play favorites. I see Cato more seldom. That’s it.”

“It’s okay, Mamma. I know I am your favorite, but you have to say that.” Dario’s eyes light up, flashing a wide, white grin.

A smile teases my lips. “Keep dreaming.”

“Boys,” my father reprimands, mumbling patience.

After dessert, I hug my mother and little brother, and Father accompanies me to my black LaFerrari Aperta––a limited edition, only 210 were produced.

I settle into the soft leather seat.

My father taps on the window, so I roll it down. “Take care of yourself.”

For a second, I stare at him with a blank expression and incline my head slightly to assure him.

With that, I drive away, the flawless engine purring under me as I conquer the streets, my entire body humming with vibrations. Nothing beats the feeling of being in control.

It isn’t long before I arrive at the compound, a five-floor, tinted, bulletproof glass building, situated strategically on the outskirts of the city, surrounded by thick, dense forest. I park next to Kieran’s Lamborghini and Cameron’s Aston. Our men patrol the perimeter, watching from the shadows. There are two ways to get inside, one by invitation or two by being a part of our syndicate.

After I use the thumb and retina scanners, the door opens. Inside the conference room, both of my friends are seated at the triangle-like table.

“How is the troublemaker?” asks Cameron, the corners of his lips tipped up in a shit-eating grin, loving to remind me of my only weakness. That girl.

I glare at him in annoyance, but he’s unimpressed. He’s a strategic asshole who loves to pull strings to my and Kieran’s frustration.

“Did I hit a nerve?”

“It’s done. That’s what matters.”

We clink our glasses, and I slump in my chair. Chiara has haunted me to the point my chest constricts at just the thought of ruining her.

“We will ruin everything and everyone in our way,” Kieran adds, as if knowing where my thoughts are headed.

He’s a ruthless motherfucker, but he’s also someone who has never glimpsed into the eyes of a complete innocent, knowing he will take the last piece of that innocence willfully.

Revenge is what started it for Kieran and Cameron.

Power is what started it for me.

I don’t need the tattoo—a triangle with three symbols, a chain, a knife, and a cross—on the underside of my forearm to remind me. It’s in every breath I take.

Chapter 1

One Year Later

The sun caresses my cold skin as I descend from our private jet. Three black SUVs wait for me and my parents on the tarmac. Home, the last place I want to be, but still better than the place I’ve spent the last five years—St. Mary’s all-girls boarding school.

I miss my best friend, Aurora, even though it has only been a few hours. With my cheek resting against the window, the skyscrapers rising in the sky like giant spires of steel, and a passerby frowning at the cars, I remain numb. I’m simply exchanging one prison for another.Luckyme.

“Did you hear what I said?”

My father’s gravelly voice takes me out of my depressing thoughts.
