He didn’t want another mate, though, and especially not a frenzy. Because then he would have to wonder if he’d lose Percy in childbirth, like he had with Edith.

His dragon said softly,Percy is a dragon-shifter. The chances are a lot better for her.

But not foolproof.

Dr. Sid has improved survival forallfemales on Stonefire when it comes to childbirth. Percy will survive.

That was true. Sid worked with various dragon doctors across the globe, sharing information and looking for all kinds of ways to help her patients. Not since Catriona Belmont—a human sacrifice who’d died birthing Murray, whom Bram had adopted—had anyone else died in childbirth. And that had been years ago.

He sighed.Even so, Percy may not want any of it.

Well, talk to her and see. There’s a lot we can do to woo her—in and out of the bedroom—without starting a frenzy. It might help to make her come with our tongue, with no cock at all, to prove she matters to us, her pleasure matters, and that we arenotlike the arseholes she dealt with before.

It was a good plan, and one he would happily do.

He’d woken hard after his dream of imagining her thighs spread before him, bastard that he was.

His dragon growled. We’re not a bastard. She’s beautiful, is attracted to us too, and she’ll like it.

Cocky, aren’t you?

Yes. It’s been too long since I last tasted a female. And now I want her.

Bronx hadn’t exactly been a player around Stonefire, especially not since he’d lost part of his leg.

Before he could tell his dragon to calm down and stop being so randy, someone knocked at the door. Bram walked in, followed by Percy and Brenna.

Violet had wanted to come, but he didn’t exactly want to discuss maybe fucking Percy in front of his daughter.

Plus, Percy knew Brenna. That was why she was here instead of Bram’s mate, Evie. He’d wanted to give Percy some female support. How things unfolded would be up to Percy.

Percy met his gaze, and he drank in her eyes, her face, and even the birthmark on her neck. He croaked, “You’re all right?”

She nodded. “Yes.”

Silence stretched, and he fucking hated it. Bronx wanted to talk to her alone, but he knew Bram had some stuff to say before that would happen.

Stonefire’s leader gestured for them to sit. Once they all had, he said, “I’m not going to beat around the bush. Bronx’s dragon recognizes you as his true mate, Percy. Now, I can understand how that’s overwhelming. But let me be clear—no one will force you into it. Ever. Do you understand?”

Percy nodded. “Yes.”

Bram blinked, surprised. “Aye, well, we need to decide today if you want to remain on Stonefire, or if you wish to be transferred to another clan to stay away from Bronx.”

Percy met his gaze, her expression unreadable.

Her flashing pupils made him smile. “Your dragon is still around.”

She grinned, and some of the weight on his shoulders lifted. “Yes. She seems to be staying put this time.”

He almost reached across the table to take her hand but caught himself.

Percy noticed, though, and stared at his hand. Slowly, oh so slowly, she reached out and covered his with hers.

A surge of hope, longing, and desire shot through him. “Percy?”

Fuck, he wasn’t being overly eloquent today, was he?

She squeezed his hand, and that hope grew. “I’m not saying I want the frenzy anytime soon. But…”
