Talked to her last night? No. I didn’t. Fuck. I’m light-headed. I grab the sides of my head, feeling like all the blood has drained from my face. Someone went into her room? Someone…touched her?

No. God no!

“Well, asshole!” she stammers, “What is it? Why are you here? What did you forget to say last night that you need to say now? Did you come to finish me off? You didn’t steal my virginity last night when I passed out so you want it now? Well, Ridge? Out with it!”

When I say nothing, she catapults from the booth, knocking me out of her way. My first instinct is to give her space, but space isn’t something I allow between her and me.

I’m in her shadow as she tears open the door in a fit of rage. That damn bell jingles, stirring everyone in their seats, and I reach up, ripping the damn thing off the frame before tossing it in the snow. Stupid fucking thing.

A barista hollers something at me, but I ignore her and trail right behind Riley, who’s picking up her pace.

“Leave me alone!”

I don’t. I can’t. Instead, I take three large steps and grab her by the back of her arm.

“I said leave me alone!” She jerks her arm, but I grip her tighter.

“I didn’t come in your fucking room,” I blurt out, barely recognizing my own voice. It was my voice, wasn’t it? I said the words? “I…I didn’t come into your room, Angel. It wasn’t me.”

Fucking finally!A rush of relief washes over me.

She turns around, her eyes widening in horror, and I’m not sure if it’s because of the sound of my voice or my remark about it not being me that went into her room.

“Say something again, Ridge. Anything.”

“If I came into your room and undressed you, I’d certainly put more than my fingers inside you, Angel. And I'dneverdrug you.”

I don’t even see it coming when her hand flies across my face. I’m also not the least bit surprised if she sincerely thought it was me. I can guarantee her that if I touched her pussy, she’d know exactly who it was.

I’m cupping my cheek, babying that slap more than the marks from fists being thrown at my face last night. This one stung a little more. This one felt like the first time she slapped me. Only, it’s not a painful sting, it’s an eye-opening one. One I deserved because I was not there to protect her last night.

“You like hitting me, Angel.” I tap my cheek. “Hit me again. I deserve it. Give me all you’ve got.”

And she does. She slaps me again, this time even harder.

Nodding my head, I bite down on my grin, waiting for the next blow.

But we’re both interrupted when Scar joins us again. She’s out of breath, panic-stricken.

“You have to come with me.”

Scar grabs Riley’s arm, but I grab the other, playing tug-of-war.“You’re not going anywhere,” I tell Riley. “We’re not finished here.”

Scar pays me no attention as she looks Riley dead in the eye and says, “Someone was pushed from a window at the Willamette House.Ourwindow.”

CHAPTER18

MADDOX

Dad: Get to the Willamette House dorms now. I’ll meet you there.

What the hellis he talking about, he’ll meet me there?

Me: Are you on campus?

Minutes pass with no response and I’m walking as fast as I can to the Willamette House, thanks to the shuttles being overbooked.

Riley stays at the Willamette House. I can only conclude this has something to do with her and the suspicion in my father that Riley has been on a killing spree. Which is fucking ridiculous.
