His eyes light up like he just won the game without even playing, and nods. “Yeah, sounds like a great idea. Hey, Noah?” Noah lifts his head. “Why don’t we win us a couple of bears.”

“Yeah, I think that is a good idea. Abby liked the yellow one when we passed by.” That has Abby’s attention, and before she turns to leave with Noah in the direction of the game, I can’t help the way she glares at Tyler and Ky, leaving them alone with Amber.

I can’t help myself when I pass by them. “Hey, Amber?” She glances at me with condescension. “I think the Ferris wheel has room for three...

My eyes flick to Ky.

Checkmate.

Ky

I WATCH RUBIdefy my warning and walk off with Chris. I can’t help the way my hands twitch when I see her hand in his, or the way she leaned into him. Rubi wants to test me. She wants to push to see if I’m bluffing or capable of fulfilling my promises. I guess what I did to Patrick wasn’t enough.

Tyler steps closer to me. “What the fuck, Ky?” He growls.

My mouth got the best of me when I let the cat out of the bag about his little fun on the Ferris wheel. I saw them when I made my way to the back of the house of mirrors to play with my girl.

I saw the way Rubi was upset that her half-bother hurt poor little Abby’s feelings. I guess Abby and Rubi have gotten closer than I thought. It wasn’t my intention to hurt Rubi for insinuating that Amber had sucked me off before. It was long before Rubi showed up.

“What’s wrong, Tyler? I was just telling the truth.” I smile when I glance at Amber. “Right, Amber?”

She places the palm of her hand on Tyler’s chest, but he looks at it like a fly just landed on his shirt and he wants to swat it away. Good girl. Amber has wanted to fuck Tyler since sophomore year when he made the varsity football team, but he was too busy eye fucking Abby to notice. You would be surprised what you can get other girls to spill when they want you to sleep with them. In my case, Jen.

I wonder how Tyler must be feeling that he saw Abby come to the fair with Noah. Instead of him tagging along with her and Chris so he can keep a close eye on Abby, now he must feel like complete shit that she knows he was getting his rocks off on a ride with none other than Amber. Her nemesis on the cheer team, and the one who loves to point out that Abby’s dance routine sucks. How does it feel, asshole?

Tyler’s eyes narrow on me, but my eyes dart over to where the beer bottle game is to more important matters. Rubi

“I guess. It isn’t a lie. It was what we were doing, and I am good at it,” Amber purrs.

Liar.

“You’re playing a dangerous game, Ky,” Tyler warns, pushing Amber’s hand off his chest.

I pull out my vape and take a hit of the marijuana oil I picked up from the shipment from Florida. It calms me down and I need to calm down like right now. I want to walk over there and throw baseballs at Chris like a person you stone to death, but I did warn her. I’ll let him off this time and I won’t fuck with him too bad. I’ll get him where it hurts, though. But I have to teach Rubi not to defy me again.

My hard stare lands on Tyler like a snake ready to strike. Amber must see the look in my eyes that I’m not fucking around, because she drops her gaze and looks away.

My mind is thinking of all the fucked-up ways I can make him hurt and take away what he loves the most. I don’t do well with threats. Especially ones that are made so I stay away from Rubi. He thinks I don’t know his daddy’s little plan, and that he wants Rubi to give up what is rightfully hers. I don’t give a fuck if he thinks he deserves it more than she does. She deserves everything, and I’m not going to let anyone take anything more from her. They will have to get through me first.

“Who said this was a game, Tyler? You better watch what you say and how you say it, or it will get worse. A lot worse.”

“Fuck you, and stay away from Rubi,” he snarls.

I angle my head and I lean close to his ear and whisper, “Good luck.” I lean back and my mouth breaks into a maniacal grin. “There’s always a choice, Tyler. Remember that.” My eyes flick to Amber and then back to him. “You could’ve said no.”

I’m waiting outside by the side of the house deep in the shadows where no one can see me watching Rubi struggle as she takes the huge red bear out of Chris’s arms. I had to watch him win the bear that I was supposed win for her that put a smile on her face. I never wanted to hit someone so hard before to wipe off that smug grin and replace it with pain while he watched my girl’s eyes light up.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that this was her first time at a fair, or the fact that Chris was nervous after I showed up. They left right after he won her the bear, using the excuse that they couldn’t go on any more rides because they had to carry the fucker around the rest of the time. I check the time, and it is only 7:30. She only went on one ride and the house of mirrors, but that doesn’t’ count because she didn’t enjoy it like I wanted her too.

I wait until she is inside the house so I can make my way into her room and wait for her. I replaced the mechanism on her window after the first day of school so she couldn’t lock it. Even if they did put a lock, nothing would stop me from changing it or gaining access to her room.

I hear footsteps from the hallway, and I sit and wait with Hope in my lap. Petting him while he purrs the way he likes it by his neck. I like Hope because she picked him, and he is the only animal that gets to sleep with her besides me.

I hear her open and shut her bedroom door, flicking the lock and then checking to make sure the door is indeed locked so no one can get in.

Smart girl.
