Istand to the side watching her and I see it. The way she looks at him. The way she has always looked at him and I hate to say that I’m jealous and ashamed at the same time for keeping the fact that I have to marry Melissa from her.

When I think of sex, the itch that overtakes me is like a drug that I need to take a hit of over and over. There is one woman that is like my favorite drug of choice that comes to mind and it’s Jess. There were times I felt guilty to use her like that and not tell her my problem. Letting her think that sex with her meant more but in fact it was like taking a hit from a pipe of heroin. There is no emotion and it’s just a high reaching a climax, only to fall right back down hitting rock bottom. But with her, it was more in a way because we would take from each other what we needed. I wasn’t stupid enough to think that she was into me and had stars in her eyes every time I showed up. We were both willing to fuck to get what we needed out of each other.

There are times I want to feel normal, but I can’t. A body is a body to me and my need is the euphoria of coming to get my next fix. Like a coke head chasing the white horse. The urge of satisfaction is what I crave and nothing else. If the woman is willing, it is all the same to me but that is what is killing me the most. I want it to be her and no one else, but I could never be that selfish. If I care about her, the way I know deep down I do, it is best I let her find happiness, allowing another man to replace those haunted eyes with joy. Even if that man isn’t me. Because she deserves that. Jesse Sharpe deserves everything.

“Stop embarrassing me. You have been staring at her long enough,” Melissa says next to me in an annoying voice. It sounds like nails on a chalkboard, grating on my nerves.

“It isn’t her fault. She’s gorgeous and eyes are made to stare and admire things that are rare and beautiful.”

“She knows about us. It looks to me like she hasn’t even noticed you’re in the room. Why bother, Valen?”

My jaws hardens and I grind my teeth. “All thanks to you and Garret. Veronica is a ferocious being all on her own. Everyone knows that.”

“Oh, come on. You remind me of the Bedford twins and Gia. You can’t possibly think that underprivileged pussy is a better option than what you have right in front of you. We know the rules. We know what we are marrying into. We have doctor’s notes to prove it, but we also have enough money to start our own country. Prey are weak and vulnerable. They were given an opportunity in exchange for being our little dog toys.”

I scoff. “Let me guess, you’re the dog. The bitch in heat.”

Her eyes harden. “How dare you.”

My lip curls in disgust. “Fuck like a bitch, get treated like one.”

The thought of what she did to Jess makes me sick. Manipulating her into having sex by using Garret and knowing Veronica loves to play games. All because she felt Jess was a threat the minute she showed up at Kenyan when I mentioned that I would love to fuck her.

“You are just upset that I ate her cunt before you and she liked it. She sure as hell wasn’t thinking of you.”

“I guess you got what you wanted. It’s going to be fun keeping you on a leash so you can watch me fuck. You wanted me so bad, you got me. Just not the version you thought.”

“Fuck you,” she spits.

“Nah, I don’t fuck bitches,” I retort, walking away from her and leaving her alone like she deserves.

My eyes scan the room and I find Jess with Reid standing near the champagne table. I make my way over and I notice Jess’s gown. It has a deep neckline but what has me stunned is the fact that it gives the illusion that she is practically naked underneath. Her dress looks transparent, the lace covering only her nipples down to almost her belly button.

I catch men trying not to stare at her beautiful body. There is no way she is wearing underwear underneath that dress and that thought alone has my cock stiffening with the urge to fuck. But I have to calm down. This is not the place or time. I can’t go to a room on the second floor after picking a random chick. I’m not here for that.

“You look gorgeous, Jess,” I say, praising her and wanting her attention on me.

Her eyes find mine and she automatically holds her hand toward me in a fist. I look down at the diamond necklace hanging from her fingers and I feel the pain of rejection stabbing me like tiny needles. The urge to fuck dying a slow death.

“I forgive you, but I can’t take it. I wore it, but I don’t think it’s right. My forgiveness doesn’t have to involve a gift. There are things we don’t have control over and some things we do.” Her expression softens when I take it from her. I have no intention of not letting her have it, but for now, I slip in my pocket.

“I understand.”

“You are young. When I’m gone you will have two years to have fun and explore college life before you have to take over your family’s obligations.”

She means fuck around with other people and go to parties. In her eyes, I’m a player that doesn’t have feelings and is incapable of them. I can’t blame her for thinking that of me. It’s always been true, until her. She taught me that emotion does exist because she was the only woman that didn’t give it to me in return when I wanted to feel it. Jesse is the first woman that didn’t ask for more than I could give. One thing I promised myself when it came to her, I would make sure she was taken care of.

“I’ll always be by your side, Jess. I’ll always be here for you.”

“That’s enough,” Reid interjects and then lowers his voice. “We have company.”

I arch a brow because I can’t believe what I am seeing. I can see right through his bullshit; he’s jealous. Reid likes her more than he lets on. Which means the show he was putting on earlier, showing up like a dark knight to save her from taking pictures alone, was genuine. God help the other souls who try to fuck with her. What’s amusing is that she is oblivious to the whole thing.

He wasn’t lying when he said we have company. Reid’s parents appear with Tara in tow. My lips lift into a fake smile, mimicking the one Tara is aiming right at us, reminding me of a possessed demon waiting to lure you in for the kill.

The woman Reid is supposed to marry, and his ex-fuck buddy, pausing in front of Reid and narrowing her eyes at Jess like she is an unwanted pest.Good luck sweetheart.

“You must be Jess,” Mrs. Riordan says warmly.
