"Holy shit."

She was trying to save us from it happening to Gia and me.

She giggles, and then her lips twist into a pathetic attempt at a smile. "I knew something he didn't want everyone else to know. Of course, he wouldn't want to be married to be around me, fearing what I knew and how I would stuff his ass with my six inches of silicone."

My head lifts, and the tiny ounce of remorse fades into oblivion.

"He can rot for all I care. He deserves it."

"So does that animal that left you in the restroom at the ball. Messy. But I know you won't tell me or anyone the truth."

She knows I won't because I can't trust anyone here. They all have an agenda; I'm at the bottom of the list. Gia can't help me. It is a risk telling them Mich is actually Michael, without it getting back to him. He has direct access to my mother, and he will kill her. Too risky.

Veronica turns off the light, and we walk the same way we came.

"Other unhinged creatures are lurking around Kenyan. PTSD, mental health issues, and addictions of all kinds. They all hide it well and supposedly get treatment but continue to rule the world in their fucked-up states. Then, there are some like you, me, and Gia who suffer at the hands of monsters trying to escape the fate of becoming fucked up."

"What happened to the people that had to kill Reid's sister?"

I wonder how Reid and Veronica could deal with knowing the person responsible for actually killing her and her boyfriend.

"They are dead. Some say it was Reid in a rage but couldn't prove it was him. Then the Consortium was formed after Dravin's mother committed suicide. They think something drove her to do it and that she could have been saved."

My stomach somersaults at the mention of the Consortium, my mouth salivating for more information as the door makes a whooshing sound when it opens.

When the door closes behind us and we make our way down the stairs, I ask, "Who are the members that make up the Consortium?"

From the corner of my eye, a slow smile spreads across her face. "That is a question no one has the answer to. Obviously, the sons of Kenyan are part of it, but the rest, no one knows. There is a rumor that there is one. This vigilante that no one knows who he is or where he came from. A killer. He doesn't exist and doesn't have a name. It's because they all fear the Consortium's wrath and judgment from him. The grim reaper, so to speak."

Zero. He's the answer.

CHAPTER30

Jess

Knock Knock.

I hear banging on my door, and I place my textbook on the bed to get up. It was too late to find a way to call Gia, and I couldn't ask Veronica for her phone because I wasn't supposed to be out with her, so I decided after she walked me to my room to catch up on my economics assignment hoping Zero would show up. I needed to talk to him, but he never showed.

I twist and pull the knob pulling the door open. The twins, Valen and Reid, are in the hallway, all giving me haughty looks when they see I'm safe and sound.

They should be smiling.

"Are you fucking kidding me right now! You're studying?" Gia roars. "I've been worried sick, and you're studying?

"How did you get back, and more importantly, you left your phone," Dravin adds.

"Please tell me you didn't leave with Satan's female spawn." I back up, and Reid is the first to enter, with Gia trailing close behind. Reid's fingers pinch the bridge of his straight nose, trying to keep himself from losing it.

"I did, and she isn't that…bad," I shrug.

What can I say? I was too busy cleaning up Michael's mess when I was on my knees, sucking him off to keep him from hurting my mom and me. Veronica gave me a way out.

"What have you done with my friend. She wouldn't leave with someone like Veronica. What happen?"

Valen finally speaks up. "You're playing a dangerous game, Jess."

"I'm not the only one playing games," I retort.
