"You are aware that I'm standing right here, right? I can hear the shit you two are talking about Jess and me. Make sure that this conversation is not overheard by the assholes that just walked in," I say sarcastically, the last part causing Valen and the twins to look up.

Garret, Geo, and Mich show up with some guys from the swim team. My eyes immediately follow the newbie Mich, and there is something that doesn't add up, and then I remember that his father owns Cedar Lake. I know a rich asshole like Mich goes to private schools and probably doesn't know Jess, but it doesn't hurt to fish out information.

What's up, guys? I got next game to whoever loses first," Garret says, walking up the steps where the two pool tables are to the left of the bar.

Geo nods and Mich smiles at us, like he is in a room with a group of celebrities and hopes one of us acknowledges him.Not in the way you think, asshole.

For some reason, I feel like beating his ass and cutting him from the bottom up.

Draven looks at his phone, and his lips break in a smile. The glow from the screen makes him look like a creature of the sea with two different colored eyes. "Gia and Jess are on their way," he says more to Dravin and me.

Valen walks up to Garret with an evil gleam in his eyes. "Don't fuck up, Garret. You know the rules. Keep your hands inside and your dick tucked in your ass when Jess shows up, or I'll shove this pool stick up there.”

"Y-yeah man, whatever," Garret stammers.

We threatened Garret to stay away from Jess. He makes her uncomfortable because of what happened, and we couldn’t care less if he's infatuated with her. He has obsessive tendencies, but his medication is through us, not the kind you get at the pharmacy.

"Wait, he was with Jess," Mich asks, looking at Garret like he is planning his murder.

While I align the pool stick to prepare the next shot, I ask Mich, "you're from Cedar Lake, right?"

"That's right. My father owns the town," Mich replies.

I didn't ask for your resume, asshole, but now this just got more interesting.

"Did you know Jess when she lived there?"

He arches a brow and grins like I said something funny. He shrugs and says, "Maybe. Apparently, a lot of people know Jess."

I give him an attempt at a smile. Valen watches him from the corner of his eyes, calculating. "I didn't ask you that. I asked if you knew Jess when she lived there. It's a simple yes or no question."

He chuckles low in his throat. "Hey, man. I get it. You all have this thing for the chick. Prey choose and all that. I knew her from school. Obviously, she was top of her class, and I had heard around here that she sucks dick like a champ, just like I heard when they talked about her back home. I saw her at a party once, and that's it. She was quiet and studied all the time."

My fingers tighten on the pool stick, ready to snap it in half. My knuckles turn white because he’s calling her a whore.

Dravin's face is ashen when he looks at me and then back at Mich, like the son of a bitch grew three heads suddenly.

I recover quickly, masking my feelings inside, wanting to shove the pool stick down his throat, but I don't miss how Dravin keeps looking at him.

"Is that right," I say, trying to sound indifferent. My ears are ringing, like I'm about to blow a gasket.

The door to the bar opens and Gia and Jess walk in, wearing their hair straight, catching several appreciative male glances. They both look beautiful, but my eyes are only for her. They scan the room, and Gia's face beams when she spots us, but Jess's smile dies slowly. My eyes flick back to Mich, and the sound of wood splintering causes me to look down.

Fuck. I broke the pool stick. My head lifts, and Jess and Gia sit at the booth with Jess's back to us.

"Dude, you broke it," Geo says, but his eyes keep darting to where Jess and Gia are.

I'll drown the bastard if he gets close to her. I toss the broken stick in the trash and walk over to them.

"What about the game?" Valen asks.

"I broke the stick, dick."

Valen sucks his teeth, shaking his head. "I was right," he calls out behind me.
