“Enough…” Paradox reached under the table and put Nana’s hand on the table within sight of everyone. “Keep it up here, or next time I won’t be so kind. Got it?”

“Show me what you’ve got…”

“Oh mercy,” Everly blurted out laughing as Mallory’s eyes got wide and she glared at the old woman. Several of them looked at each other in dawning horror of what had happened as Paradox leaned forward.

“More than you are capable of handling...”

“Both hands?” Nana bantered, batting her eyelashes at him innocently.

“In plaster casts?” he quipped softly, grinning.

“Why didn’t you just say you weren’t interested in an older woman?”

“I believe I did, missy. Age is just a number, but I have a huge problem with anyone other than my girlfriend touching me. Got it? Now, would you like some potatoes, you feisty thing?”

“Rawrrr…” Nana purred and winked at Paradox.

Hours later,Everly was sitting on the couch with Alex’s arm wrapped around her shoulders. Megan was nibbling on cheesecake with Killian and Destiny, while their parents shared a slice of pumpkin pie. Caleb was throwing a Nerf ball around the room slowly to each person. First Mallory, then Paradox, Maestro, Nana, etc… each person was on the receiving end of the ball, a high-pitched excited scream as he forced a loud laugh that bordered on a shriek.

Paradox slid down off the couch, sitting on the floor with his legs spread out in front of him, scooting over slightly so he was directly between Mallory’s knees – who immediately leaned forward to rub his shoulders as Caleb ran over, tackling him.

Killian told her about the strange circle of events concerning Caleb’s parents and everyone seemed to be willing to get along to keep peace within the family and household.

Destiny smiled and looked at Killian, crooking her finger to get him to lean forward so she could whisper to him.

“Caleb will be very lucky to have two dad’s that will care for him, won’t he?”

“I’m not sure how serious it is for Paradox, but yeah, the kid’s lucky, because my sister will love him like he’s her own,” he said quietly and then looked at her, reaching up to touch her cheek softly. “Shall we head home?”

“Yes,” she whispered, her heart flipping wildly in understanding.

Killian got up and scraped the plates, putting them in the sink and setting their coffee mugs on the counter. Moments later, they were hugging everyone and making their exit quickly, holding hands.

CHAPTER14

DESTINY

As Destiny pulledup to the house and turned off the car, Killian got out without a word. He moved to get his bag out of the trunk where he’d put it earlier, hefting it onto his shoulder like it was nothing. It was everything, because he was home.

She had taken time to bake some cookies for him, so that way the house smelled good and inviting, made sure everything was spotless, and wanted there to be no distractions or interruptions for them. In fact, she had put the piece of lingerie that he gave her in the bathroom, on a hook, in case she was brave enough to finally put it on.

She waited by the door, holding it open… and saw him drop his bag by the door, before scooping her up – grinning. He carried her a few feet inside, before setting her down, causing her to burst out laughing in awareness.

“You’ve already carried me over the threshold, silly… when we got married – or don’t you remember?”

“I enjoy doing it,” he smiled, hefting up his bag and bringing it inside. “Are you okay if I kick off my shoes?”

“Of course – make yourself at home. Can I get you a soda, some tea, or would you like me to make you a fresh pot of coffee?”

“I’ll grab some water.”

“I’ll get it,” she offered again. “Please, relax and…”

“And what?” he said simply, looking at her before setting down his bag on the couch. “Should I…”

“I don’t know,” she interrupted softly, feeling her face warm, knowing she was blushing. “I don’t know how any of this happens and…”
