“Let’s don’t talk about the car… but let’s do get back to your mysterious surprise,” she preened, tiptoeing carefully into the grass to look to see what he had done. Killian rolled his eyes and dropped the shovel, marching towards her stubborn figure and scooping her up into his arms.

“I don’t want you to step on something,” he growled pointedly. “There are stickers in the yard, and I’ve already removed a few from my boot laces. Now, what do you want to know, Miss Nosy-buns.”

“Whatcha planting?” she said playfully, smiling at him knowingly. “Have I mentioned how appealing you look right now? All buff and gorgeous with those muscles in a white t-shirt.”

“Destiny…” he laughed, shaking his head. “I’m covered in dirt and sweat.”

“Mmmm, sexy,” she teased, winking at him, causing him to laugh even more as he gingerly set her down.

“Stand on my steel toes,” he ordered and slowly walked her towards the pathway a few feet away. “Now, I’m planting all sorts of bulbs for spring, so you have some pretty things coming up… and when I come home in the springtime? We’ll put in some roses, so you have flowers from me almost year-round.”

She threw her arms around his neck, hugging him tightly… and he sighed, closing his eyes in supreme satisfaction. Gosh, he loved making this sweet woman happy and her reactions.

“C’mon, my little bunny…” he whispered, kissing her mussed hair. “Let’s get you inside and I’ll finish this up.”

“Alright,” she grumbled, walking into the house… and dropped her robe.

Killian was pretty sure his eyes were going to pop out of his head. His brain stopped working as he saw her wearing the outfit that he purchased online. He choked for a second, nearly swallowing his tongue, before clearing his throat… and marched inside, shutting the door behind him, delighting in her shy laughter.

“… And I’m done with the shovel,” he muttered, scooping her up into his arms and carrying her off, the two of them giggling like children.

Killian shoveleda donut into his mouth, chewing happily and swallowing the lump of dough while Destiny was getting ready. He wanted to get the last of the bulbs into the ground before the concert… and fool around once more if they had enough time.

He laughed to himself, shaking his head in disbelief at how happy he was just being here, doing all the little things, and enjoying life to the fullest. The idea that this was how things could be, made him even happier for his sister and Maestro, knowing that they’d found this joy together.

He couldn’t wait to see what other treasures came down the road, and hesitated… because this was going to be short-lived. He was here for three more days, before flying back to Afghanistan.

Taking a deep breath, he thought of his friends that had left, the guys that were still there, and his squadron leader – Reaper. How did the man come home four times a year, and that was enough for them as a couple?

He got paid very well and it would provide easily for a family, which both he and Destiny craved… but was it going to end up choosing between work and home? And how did you even begin to make that choice?

What happened if the newness wore off between them? Would reality come bearing down on them, causing them to fight about money, the kids, or sex? A pension would help provide for any children and substantiate his income, so long as he could finish his time in the Air Force.

His phone beeped at that moment – and he dug it out of his back pocket, glancing at it. Hot Cakes, one of the other pilots that had returned to Texas after getting married, was texting him.

Hey… we are having a bonfire Friday night at Flyboys. The girls are doing a round of Black Friday shopping in Tyler – does your wife want to meet everyone and go??

I’ll ask… and thank you.

Karen is dying to meet her – and so are the others, now that we know our infamous Ricochet finally tied the knot. LOL.

Paradox blabbed again?

Nooo… but he knew?

Everly is going shopping with Karen and Mary – and she told my wife about Destiny, asking if she could bring her new sister-in-law.

“Is everything okay?” Destiny asked, bringing him a glass of iced tea. “You are frowning at the phone like it offended you.

“What? Oh no, not at all, Beautiful. I just got a text message that I wasn’t expecting and well, I think the cat is out of the bag.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, my sister told a few friends that she wanted to bring her new sister-in-law shopping… and that friend is one of the pilots at Flyboys. Have I mentioned how we are all a bunch of gossips?” he smiled. “Nothing better than talking smack or discussing another buddy.”

He hesitated and saw Destiny had this strange look on her face.
