Killian never cried.

He might have gotten teary-eyed at one point, but in this moment? He actually had tears rolling down his cheeks, his dark eyes glittering. She quickly grabbed him a tissue – and he smiled at her sheepishly.

“Sorry, I’m a little overwhelmed.”

“You, sir, have nothing to apologize for,” she said softly. “And you are entirely welcome to feel ‘overwhelmed’when it comes to our children.”

“Children?”

“Yep,” Destiny grinned at him. “You should come home in two months when I get the okay to try again. I think our little Cate will need a sibling – or two.”

Her husband smiled at her with this knowing glint in his eyes.

“I’ll put in for time off as soon as I get back.”

“And in the meantime, we’ll learn together how to handle this sweet girl.”

“With pleasure, my love.”

EPILOGUE

KILLIAN

Four years later…

“C’mon with Daddy,”Killian said proudly, loading everyone into the newest Cessna ‘homed’ at Flyboys – where he would be working later this year. This was his last vacation as a pilot in the Air Force… and he was returning home to fulfill his other obligations to the people that mattered most.

His family.

Destiny had been more than patient with him, giving him as much time as he needed, listening when he needed to bend her ear or nag about work just like any other person… but this last visit, there had been something in her voice that bothered him – and he was done.

Cate was everywhere, adventurous and bright - and the apple of his eye. He loved that sweet girl with the blond curls and huge brown eyes more than he ever dreamed imaginable – and Dillon…

His son.

There was no explaining the sheer masculine pride in him when he introduced his son or showed him off. Dillon had Destiny’s eyes and her enchanting smile – but his temper. The boy was ferocious if he didn’t get his way… which wasn’t often.

Cate was his heart… and Dillon was his soul.

Destiny was his universe and everything in-between. That woman made life worth living, and he felt like he could do anything in the glory of her gentle smile… which was beaming at him now.

“This will be incredible, and I am so nervous yet excited at the same time,” she began, watching Killian as he strapped the car seat into the plane, before taking Cate and putting her in it. “Now, are you my big girl and help your mama watch your brother, right?”

“Yes, sir,” she beamed, sticking her index finger in the corner of her mouth out of habit and chewing on it. He hated that she said ‘sir,’ but Destiny insisted on manners and respect – and it was her household, her roost, therefore her rules.

“Is that a good finger, Miss Cate the Great?”

She dragged her finger out of her mouth and looked at him guiltily. They had been trying to break her of sucking her thumb and chewing on her fingers for two years now, but when she got excited – it was a quick reversion to a natural comfort.

“If they are so nummy… I’ll gobble one,” Killian said playfully, pretending to chew on her hand that was incredibly slimy, making him laugh. There was no way he was going to actually do it – and this was an excuse to wipe it off on his shirt. “I love you, pretty girl.”

“Love you, Daddeeee…” she said happily, locking her arms upwards for a hug, which he melted into right away.

“Alright, alright. We’ve got to get Mommy in the plane, and that means Daddy has to move because someone has to fly this ‘dragon’ for his favorite princesses – and prince.”

“Killian,” Destiny smiled tenderly at him as he exited the plane. “You are giving her quite the imagination, and she’ll be telling all her Pre-K teachers about how her Daddy took her flying in the belly of a dragon.”

“How’s my favorite princess of them all?” he said softly, knowing she’d gotten up a few times last night. “Was I too rough with you, my love?”
