I knew that.

My phone dinged as I got in my car. I looked down at the message from Ren asking me to meet him at the docks.

I put the pedal to the metal and sped down to the docks. Ren was standing there, looking out at the sea. I joined him at the dock.

“What’s up?”

“I received word that Zane had Percy and Paisley put on a boat, locked in a lower cabin.”

“Out there, somewhere?”

I looked for a sign of a boat but the water was clear of any boat traffic.

“Yeah, but another source, and I believe this one, told us he was ordered to drill holes in the bottom of the boat.”

“What?”

“They sunk them.”

I felt as if my lungs weren’t getting any air. I gripped onto the railing of the dock and hunched over it.

“No.”

“I’m sorry, boss.”

He walked off, leaving me alone, as my entire world ripped apart at the seams. They couldn’t be gone.

Paisley.

I fell to my knees. The hard rocks of the parking area digging into my skin through my jeans but I welcomed the pain. Anything to take this feeling from my heart.

A primal scream erupted from deep within me, taking any form of self control from me. I let out a wail as I wept for my beloved, and for my brother. I couldn’t control it. I’d never shown Ren any form of emotion before, but right now, he was going to have to see his boss losing his shit.

My life was …. gone.

Paisley

The bright lights from a passing boat shone down on us. Our raft was falling to pieces after the first bursts of rain from the storm that was set to hit us head on. The boat was shining beacon in a dark tunnel of despair.

“Come,” I heard someone yell from the top of a ladder. Percy helped me to grip onto it as it swayed in the choppy water. It took everything in me to hold onto the bars as the rain water sloshed over us. Percy climbed up behind me until I finally felt someone’s hands on mine, hauling me the rest of the way. Once I got on the deck, I waited for Percy to climb over. He stood in front of me, protecting me. I had no idea why until I looked up, pushing my hair out of my eyes and saw the men with their guns.

Shit.

“You’ll fetch us a pretty price, lady,” he yelled.

He then looked up at Percy, and realized he would be an issue.

“Put them below.”

His men grabbed both of us and shoved us down a small stairway to the lower deck. From one failing vessel to a pirated vessel, we really weren’t having much luck.

“Just do what they say,” Percy told me. “Don’t worry about me.”

I didn’t realize what he was saying until they locked me into a room, and shoved Percy further down the walkway and out of sight.

Shit.

How the hell could I have ended up here again? I knew they would sell me to the highest bidder, probably in the same sex ring Percy had saved me from all those years ago.
