“What?”

“Why do you do these things with women? Why are you part of the fucking empire that ruined our father?”

“Scythe is more than an empire, brother. You could have joined if you weren’t such a fucking loser.”

“I wouldn’t want to join, you fuckwad.”

“Then why did you jump in my helicopter?”

It was a good question. One I couldn’t answer. It had been a split decision that I had made and now I had no idea where we were going, or if I’d make it out alive but here I was.

I wasn’t going to let my fuckhead brother think he had the best of me. We were out of Olympia’s airspace, heading toward the desert. He could easily toss me out of the helicopter there and no one would fucking find me.

Slowly, that was making more sense. He didn’t need any hiccups with his new venture.

“Where’s Charles?” I asked him, knowing full well where he was.

“I don’t know,” he said. “He’s not the boss of me.”

“He’s not answering you anymore, is he?” I queried, feeling a sense of joy. I could tell by Zane’s expression he was confused by the lack of communication. “Maybe you’ve upset him. It’s not hard to do, trust me.”

“He’s busy,” Zane spat back. “You have no idea how much he’s had to do to make sure we succeed.”

Zane was going to be the head of the operation if I didn’t do something about it. I couldn’t let this little worm get away with it. He was destroying everything, he had already taken my brother and my lover, and now he was taking my home from me.

The helicopter was lowering. I could see a compound of some kind in the middle of the desert.

“Time to face the music, brother.”

Zane shoved Talia off the helicopter first. She almost tripped and landed on her face but someone had caught her and righted her before he took his gun out and aimed it at me. I’d never met the guy before.

“It’s time to make your choice, brother.”

I clicked the button on my phone that would alert Ren as to where I was. I knew this fucker aiming a gun at my face would be able to take me out in a second if he wanted to. I needed to go along for now.

“Drop the gun.”

I looked down at the gun in my hand, and tried to think quickly as to what i could do. That’s when I realized the pilot was still in his chair, and the blades were still moving. I quickly shoved Zane out of the helicopter and put the gun against the pilot’s cheek.

“Take off.”

Zane’s men were shooting at us, so much so that the pilot was trying to pull up quickly and away from the shots.

It was a miracle we got away without blowing up. Zane looked mad as I looked down at him on the ground.

“Where to?”

“Olympia.”

“Hell no,” he said. “There’s no way I’m going back. That place is set to blow up any moment now.”

“Take me or we both go down now.”

“You wouldn’t kill yourself.”

“Wouldn’t I?” I shoved the gun into his neck further. “I lost my woman and my brother, I’ve just killed my own father and my brother is set to blow up my home. Do I have anything to live for?”

He swerved in the air and headed back to Olympia. I prayed I wasn’t too late. I looked down at my phone. Ren was still there, trying to protect the city and destroy the bombs.
