Lyra chuckled. According to Himmy, Imko was more overtly sexual than most, but his skills as an alpha were physical, so he liked to touch and be touched. Fortunately, Himmy responded to him excitedly, and it was what he needed.

There were betas out there who could take on an alpha, but they were few and far between. The Su’ath seemed to collect that kind of beta as well, but once they were captured, they were rarely recovered.

Lyra waited until Imko finished kissing his mate and sipped at her tea while she watched. When the kiss was over, Imko was on the couch and his wife was in his lap.

He sighed happily with one hand on the huge swell of Himmy’s belly. Lyra smiled.

Imko asked, “So, did you feel anything when you watched us?”

“Not particularly. I think you are cute together. Why?”

Imko sighed. “Just wondering if your hormones have kicked in yet.”

“Nope. All I can confirm is that I don’t want to have sex with either one of you.”

Himmy grimaced. “That is unfortunate.”

Imko sighed. “She is aroused eighty percent of the time lately. It would have been nice to have someone who could keep her busy while I was working.”

Himmy made a fist and punched him. “It’s your fault, so just deal with it. You caused it; you have to fix it.”

He chuckled and lifted her fist to kiss her knuckles. “I will, as soon as we aren’t under surveillance.”

Himmy exhaled. “I don’t care.”

Lyra chuckled and sipped her tea. “Go nuts; it won’t damage me. I am working through my own stuff.”

Himyana laughed. “I can wait.”

“You can just send me to my room. Wait. Do I have a room, or am I going back to the research centre?”

They both looked at her. “No!”

Imko sighed. “You will remain here, get acclimated to our society, and the alphas are already spreading the news that you have been sighted. Your walking up to them and sayingboowas recorded on our cameras and is being sent to some of the more distant outposts so that they have a chance to come back here before the Omega Run is over.”

Lyra cocked her head. “What is the Omega Run?”

Imko sighed. “We assemble one hundred alphas. You will scent along them to determine which ones you will not accept. We then have the remaining males compete for five days, and on the final day, you take a backpack full of markers into a reserve and hide them along the course. Each alpha has five minutes to gather as many of the markers as he can. The one with the greatest collection will be your first mate, the next one will be your second, and then a possible third can be added to your bed. At that point, their skills will be analyzed, and you and they will be assigned to an outpost to test the theory that an omega makes a team stronger.”

Lyra blinked. “Three?”

Himmy frowned. “Is that a problem?”

“My species generally pair bonds. Anything outside of that is considered deviant behaviour by the masses. This is going to take some getting used to.”

Imko cocked his head. “But you don’t have an objection to the contest? Some species do.”

Lyra shrugged. “Women and men have courtships that are defined by their circumstances and social structure. You guys have the added details of alphas, betas, and omegas in the mix. It just adds layers to the needed rituals for courtship.”

Imko looked at Himmy and smiled. “What was our ritual?”

Himmy chuckled. “You broke the manacles holding me, kissed me, and told the elders that they weren’t getting back to Peltin until they agreed to surrender me as payment.”

Lyra giggled. “Seriously?”

Imko sighed. “Seriously. She was at the end of her receptivity, but her scent still pulled me to her. One trace of her, and I followed her scent through a warship and into the hold.”

“He punched right through the wall.” Himyana leaned against his shoulder.
