She opened the door and there was her dad. Covered in something blue.

“Hey, sweetie. They told me you were up here. Didn’t move fast enough when I popped that Nelut nesting balloon. Thought I’d come here for a shower. You do not want this in your car, I tell you.” If he was surprised she was in a robe in someone else’s suite, he did not show it.

“Boys, you better have some clothes on,” he called out as he shuffled in. He started toward the back of the suite. “I need to use the big shower. It’s got the most water pressure. If you don’t get this stuff off you pretty fast, well, you do not need a sibling.”

Her cell phone pinged with a text from security.

Her happy time was over for the afternoon. She needed to get back to work.

Van had never been so happy to need a ride. Most of the time it sucked to have one car between them, and when he’d had to find a way to get up to the lodge earlier, it had been shitty. But now, he was perfectly happy with his state.

He glanced around the lodge’s security office and thought about how horrified Hale had looked when he realized he would be the one driving Mel home. Mel hadn’t wanted Elisa driving back down the mountain alone, so…here he was, watching their woman work while Hale was getting an earful about alien mating practices.

Life felt pretty good.

For now.

He wasn’t going to think about that. He had months and months before he had to deal with that particular heartache. He was going to live in the now and worry about everything else later. The afternoon had been magnificent, and he wasn’t going to ruin it with anxiety and guilt.

“This is what we were able to find.” The head of the security department was a man named Frank Davidson. Van knew him vaguely, but he’d never spent much time with him. Luckily he’d been hired directly by Cole Roberts, so he hadn’t gone through the normal security check which would have involved this big, rough-looking guy asking him a million questions about his record. Or he would have taken one look at his record and kicked him out.

Would he ever be able to get a job his brother didn’t arrange?

“I think this is your mystery woman. She was definitely not a guest of the hotel. This is the only time she shows up here. I looked a couple of days before and a couple of days after.” Unlike the majority of the employees, Frank was older and lived off site with his family in Pagosa Springs. He wasn’t the type to party with all the singletons.

And there were a lot of parties. The younger employees worked hard and played even harder. In the beginning it had been a lot of fun. It had made him feel like he was part of the group. And then he slept with most of the group.

He shouldn’t have joked about all the sex he and Hale had before meeting Elisa. At the time it had seemed a fun way to needle Hale, but he hoped she hadn’t taken him seriously.

There hadn’t been that many. They had a fairly low body count. For young guys. Who had a lot of kinky sex. Maybe medium. Not high. Probably. It wasn’t like he counted and compared.

The crazy thing was it wasn’t hard to think about not ever sleeping with another woman. It didn’t bother him at all. Monogamy was a nice idea when that woman was Elisa Leal.

She leaned over, looking at the monitor. She was buttoned up and in her uniform again, her hair neat and expression controlled, but he could remember how hot she’d been, how her ass had wiggled and pushed back against the plug. How tight she’d been when he’d driven his cock deep inside her. How pretty and trusting she’d been when she laid on that bench and let him do all kinds of dirty things to her. When she’d told him yes and looked at him with trusting eyes, he’d felt like he was finally worthy of something good.

“Van?”

He straightened up and crossed one leg over the other so maybe no one noticed his unruly dick. “Yeah?”

“I asked if you can take a look at the security feed and tell me if you recognize this woman.” Her lips kicked up in an amused expression, as though she could see right through him. “If you need a minute…”

He kind of loved it when she teased him. She knew exactly what his problem was, and he liked the intimacy of sharing that with her. He stood and was glad his jeans weren’t tight. “I’m fine. I was lost in thought. Let’s take a look at this lady who seems to want to kill me.”
