“That’s a very good question. One I’ll let Cayman handle. He’s inside, if you want to follow me.”

After showingthem into the room where Ares and Cayman were head-to-head, most likely looking into Mitskovski’s finances, I retreated to the library.

I was stunned when I walked in and found two tables in addition to the larger one where I’d plopped my bags and crate earlier.

Rather than assume Ares had facilitated their set up to poke fun at my “chaotic” approach, I chose to believe he’d done it to be sweet, err, helpful.

Once I’d unloaded my files, it occurred to me that, perhaps, the tables were meant for others’ use. Instead of moving anything, though, I decided to wait. It wouldn’t be that difficult for me to consolidate everything later if necessary.

“I see you’re settled.” I wondered how long Ares had been standing in the doorway, observing me.

“I have done. And if you’re responsible, thank you.” I pointed to the additional work surfaces.

“You haven’t seen the best part.”

Seen the best part? Him? Shirtless? Maybe even naked? Either way, it would certainly constitute the best part. “Ahem. What would that be?”

When he walked over to the desk and picked up a small remote, I nearly had to take a seat. He pressed a button and motioned to the far wall, where a screen dropped down from the ceiling.

“Your laptop plugs in here,” he said, holding up a cable.

“What does the other button on the remote do?” I asked when he handed it to me.

“There’s an additional drop-down in the rear. It can be used as an evidence board or whatever you’d like to use it for.”

“I doubt you had time to have it installed, along with the tables.”

He grinned. “Cayman asked the SIS guys to do it. There’s another set in the main dining room and in the larger of the two sitting rooms.”

“The one with the purple velvet?”

This time, he laughed. “Crazy, right?”

“Definitely eccentric.”

“Anyway, if there’s anything else you can think of to make this a functioning command center, say the word, and Cayman will get your guys back out here.”

“Has he sorted out who will be staying where?”

“I think so, although I have no intention of getting into those weeds.”

I agreed and said so.

“Everyone is set,” said Cayman, joining us moments later. “Zeppelin, Magnet, and Puck will be in the main house with us. Ares, your team—”

He held up his hand. “Stop right there. I have no desire to hear the rest.”

Cayman looked at me.

“Neither do I.”

When he threw the papers he held in his hand up in the air, the three of us chuckled.

“I’ll just say this,” said Cayman. “There’s an empty room in the main house, should anyone need it.”

“By the way, I got a message saying the rest of my guys will be here earlier than expected. In fact, they’ll probably arrive shortly. Once they do and are settled, it might be a good time to gather the troops, so to speak,” Ares suggested.

I agreed. “I’ll prepare now.”
