“Shere?” asked Grace.

“It’s about an hour from here,” Z responded. “It was Ares’ idea to have the team set up there, given your success working remotely on your last investigation.”

“What the hell?” Wren whispered, sliding up beside me. “I thought the plan was for them to remain in London?”

“I’m not sure. I anticipated they’d work where we are.”

Wren shook her head. “This is not a good idea. You have to talk to Mayhem before Nem gets back.”

My eyes met Grace’s when she glanced over her shoulder. “Who’s Nem?” she asked.

“Nem? You mean Nemesis, right? You’ll love her,” Mayhem said to Grace. “She’s Ares’ counterpart in the UK. Where is she anyway?”

“Egypt. She’ll be back this afternoon,” I told him.

“I can’t wait for Grace to meet her.”

“This isn’t good,” Wren said under her breath.

I was confused by her reaction, then remembered Nem mentioning her friend was making a mountain out of a molehill. I wouldn’t say that now, though, just based on her already agitated state.

“Marchand has arrived,” said Z before turning to Mayhem and Grace. “If you’ll excuse us.”

“There’s a great Portuguese restaurant not far from here, if you’re hungry,” I suggested.

“That’s right. One of Nem’s favorites,” said Mayhem.

Wren made a grumbling noise from behind me. However, it didn’t appear either Mayhem or Grace noticed.

“Let’s be off,” said Z, leading the four of us out of his office.

“You need to do something,” Wren whispered as we followed Z down the hall to a conference room.

“Hello, Baissier.” Z greeted the ambassador like the old friends they were. “You know Ares and Wren.”

“It’s a pleasure, sir,” I said, shaking his hand, then making eye contact with the other man in the room. “Poseidon, I didn’t know you’d be here. Great to see you.”

Kai “Poseidon” Allora was a Maltese national and their country’s task force commanding officer.

“Great to see you, Ares.” We embraced, then he greeted Wren. “So, we have our first coalition mission.”

“We do.”

“Shall we get down to business?” suggested the French ambassador, motioning for us to take a seat.

“Ares, I’ll let you take over from here,” said Z.

I pulled the briefing I’d prepared up on the room’s screen and explained the options for executing the raid. I’d included several screenshots of the compound from the overheads, along with the schedules we’d pieced together after watching the movement of those manning the operation.

“We have coalition commitments of support from Malta,” said Marchand, nodding to Poseidon, “as well as Switzerland and Albania. I am somewhat hesitant to reach out to Bulgarian law enforcement at this time. However, I am working with their intelligence sectors.”

“Understood, sir.”

“You’ll have whatever support you require from SIS,” offered Z, “as well as from our friends at K19 Security Solutions.”

Marchand looked from Z to me. “I spoke with Gunner Godet last evening. He assures me your plans are airtight.”

“Glad to hear it, sir.”
