“Stay on them. Intercept immediately if it appears they’ve found what they’re looking for,” I ordered.

“Roger that, sir.”

Tank had two others with him. By my count, they were outnumbered more than two-to-one. “Nemesis, arrange backup.”

“Roger that,” she responded.

“My apologies, Nem,” I said, realizing I’d overstepped with my directive.

“This isyourmission, Cayman.”

“Just don’t attempt outranking me,” said Z. “At least not yet.”

I killed the mic. “How long was the NRO’s interruption?” I asked Ares.

“Twenty minutes,” he responded. “Went live again seconds before I handed you my phone.”

“See what they can recover. We need to know what we missed.”

“Roger that.”

Less than five minutes later, the three teams securing the access points to the property reported we had the all clear.

“Teams, move in!” I ordered.

I was first through the villa’s side door, where there was a staircase up to the second and third floors. I waited while two others on the team secured the area, then ran up the steps. Poseidon and Zeppelin were right behind me.

After also securing the second-floor hallway, we started busting through the doors identified as bedrooms on the schematic.

Ares, Nem, and three others were doing the same on the third floor while Z, Oleander, and Verity cleared the rest of the villa and searched for Mithras.

We found one woman in every room, shackled to the bed. Each appeared to have been drugged to the point of unconsciousness.

When I came to the fifth door, a feeling of dread overcame me. I stepped aside as Poseidon broke it open.

“Jesus motherfucking Christ!”he shouted, racing in. “We need a medicSTAT!”

Time stood still as I walked into the room. Even from the doorway, I’d been able to see the bedding was soaked with blood. I prayed with every step I took, wishing I could turn around and leave this fucking place. If it was Bexli in that bed and she was—

“She’s alive.Where the fuck is the medic!” he said into the comms.

“Kai?” I said barely above a whisper.

“It’s not her, Cay.”

“You’re certain?”

“One hundred percent.”

I stepped closer and looked down at the woman lying in the bed, hating how relieved I was when it wasn’t Bexli. No one should suffer through whatever she had.

“You’re safe now,” I said when she groaned and looked up at us. No doubt seeing two men in tactical gear terrified her more than she already was.

There were no apparent injuries on her head or neck. Starting right where the sheet rested, just above her breasts, she’d been beaten so severely that the contusions had split the skin in several places.

“Cay.” Poseidon motioned with his head. I stepped around him. He raised the sheet just enough for me to see her calf. Based on the burns and marks, on top of being beaten, she’d been zapped by something with an electrical current.

“Where are the medics?”he shouted again.
