“Thanks, Dad.”

“I love you, Winston. Your mum says to tell you the same.”

I’d never doubted my parents’ love for me or that they’d do everything in their power to help me when I needed it.

While I appreciated what was taking place inside my house—the coalition’s command center for now and into the foreseeable future—my way was faster.

I couldn’t think about human trafficking or the number of victims or arrests. I had singular vision on.Bexli.Other than my mother and father, she was the only person who truly mattered to me.

When my parents arrived, thirty minutes later, I met them in the drive. My mum jumped out of the car, raced over, and threw her arms around me. I hadn’t realized how badly I needed her comfort. My father walked over and enveloped both of us, much like he used to do when I was a kid.

“Sorry,” I said, pulling my arm from under his to wipe my eyes.

My mother reached up and brushed away a tear from my cheek. “Do not be ashamed to cry, Winston.”

I rested my forehead on her shoulder. “I’m so worried about her, Mum.”

The three of us returned to the tiered hillside where I’d stood earlier.

“Tell us what you need, Winston,” said my father.

“I want to liquidate assets and raise a great deal of cash as quickly as it can be arranged.”

“How much?”

I had no idea. “A minimum of ten million pounds?” I asked more than said.

He nodded, seemingly unperturbed by the figure. “I can make arrangements to have that much available in twenty-four hours.”

“More if you need it,” my mother added.

“What else?” my dad asked.

“A private plane at our disposal.”

“Done,” my mum responded.

“That’s all for now. That may change, of course.”

My parents both nodded.

“Bexli is a lovely girl,” my father said. “I remember the first time I met her. Her family life was never easy.”

No, it hadn’t been, and from that first day, I’d vowed to protect her.

“When is the auction? Do you know?” my father asked, almost in a whisper.

“I do not. If we head inside, we may be able to get the answer.” My parents knew the security involved in what I’d made my life’s work, so it didn’t surprise me when they hesitated before following me up to the house that a year ago had been theirs.

I opened the door to frenzied activity and motioned for them to follow.

There were a total of twenty agents—including Z and myself—who’d either already been staying on the property or had driven in for this morning’s meeting.

Smaller groups had formed in the same way they had for our previous missions.

“Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Trace,” said Ares, approaching us.

“We’ve told you, Bartholomew and Catalina,” my mum said, without her usual aplomb.
