“Sure.”

She pocketed her phone. “Shianne is on her way over.”

“I’m sorry I can’t stay with you today, Lara. Are you sure you’ll be alright here? I can take you home.”

“Tate. I can’t keep pulling you away from work. As much as I love spending time with you, I feel terribly guilty. And now your parents are coming to town. Where will they sleep?”

He grinned. “I thought you and I would go to your place, and they can have my room.”

She smiled and felt the heat crawl up her body. “I’d like that. That way, we don’t have to be so quiet.”

It was his turn to go pink, but he stalked to her and pulled her tightly to his body. His lips landed against hers and his tongue dove into her mouth. Their tongues danced together, and she felt him grow rigid. It was exciting how his body reacted to hers. His hands cupped her face on either side, and he tilted her head slightly before dominating her mouth once more.

“Oh, my god. Right here in front of everyone.”

She jumped back as Shianne grinned like the Grinch. But when Tate spoke, her grin turned into an open-mouthed gape.

“I’ll kiss her in front of anyone who’s around. I happen to like kissing her.”

Shianne closed her mouth, then looked into her eyes. Her cheeks turned bright red and for the first time in a long time, Shianne was speechless.

“Okay,” she squeaked out.

Lara laughed. She stood on her toes and kissed Tate quickly. “Thank you for bringing me to work.”

“Call me if you have any trouble.”

“I will.”

He swatted her on the ass, nodded to Shianne, and walked out the back door.

Shianne looked at her, and Lara laughed. “We’re together.”

“Well, duh!”

“His parents are coming into town tonight, too.”

“What for? Is it to meet you? Oh my god, what on earth has happened in just a few days? You have a lot to tell me.”

Lara laughed and sauntered to the coffeemaker and poured them each a cup.

Shianne hung her dress bag on the door to the office and came back for her cup of coffee.

They sat at the table she and Tate had just vacated and she told Shianne all about Kent, the power outages, and Tate’s parents.

“Basically, I’m interrupting his job. My dad is too by not doing his job and Tate called in support. As soon as his mom found out about me, she jumped at the chance to come down here. Plus, I’m sure they miss him, so they’ll be here tonight.”

“Wow.” Shianne sipped her coffee and stared.

“Is your store open today?”

“Yes. The power is back on and I’ve dragged my manual credit card system from the basement so I can still sell clothing and accessories if the power goes out again. I have a money bag with change and we’re going old school.”

Lara laughed. “Awesome. Let’s see the dress.”

Shianne set her coffee on the counter and unzipped the dress bag. She pulled her dress free with a flourish.

“Oh, Shi, it’s gorgeous.”
