That is never going to happen.

“There’ll be more clothes for you soon. I just need to see what your style is.”

I stare blankly at him. My style? There’s no such thing. I don’t have one.

He shakes his head. “Call me,” he says as he walks out of the apartment, leaving me alone again.

I move toward the suitcase. This man is driving me crazy. Opening it, I’m shocked by how many clothes are inside. Dresses, skirts, t-shirts, leggings, jeans, pants… He’s really got me one of everything.

I sit back on my haunches and look at the clothes. He’s going to drive me to the brink. He’s going to hurt me and be nice, mixing the pain with the pleasure. I can just see it now. He’s going to completely screw me up. I don’t know how I’m going to survive.

SEVEN

ELIO

Walking out of the apartment, it takes everything to keep going and not turn around. That woman is driving me crazy. I’m attracted to her—who the fuck wouldn’t be?—but there’s a vulnerability that’s pulling at me and I can’t let it. I need to keep her at arm’s length.

“Thought I’d find you here,” Dario says, leaning against my car. “How is she?”

“Alive,” I reply, hitting the key fob to unlock the door. “What are you doing here?”

He grins. He’s a fucking menace, always has been, but he’s grown up in the past year. “The boss wants to talk to you. He’s on his way to the Dirty Demons compound.”

I guess my brother had the same idea I had. “Why?”

Dario shrugs. “I felt like being nosey.”

I bet he did. “Get in the car,” I instruct him. “Why are you so invested in this?” I ask once I’m in the vehicle and pulling on my seatbelt.

He shrugs. “I dunno,” he murmurs. “There’s something about her. She’s a spitfire, but she also brings out my protective instinct and I don’t fucking like it.”

He can join the club. “You think it’s a ruse?” I can’t make out if she’s playing us or not. She’s got fire in her eyes and has a lot of guts to stand up to us, but then she acts as though she’s never been given anything before. It makes no sense whatsoever.

“I don’t know. There’s not much to go on about her. No one has been able to uncover anything.”

He’s right. The only details we have about Teagan are her age, date of birth, and the fact her mom died when she was almost three, then she went to live with her father. Since then, there’s nothing. No social media presence, no banking, no cellphone. It’s like the woman is a ghost.

Dario drums his fingers against his thighs. “What I don’t get is why she was at the homeless shelter. With the amount of money her bastard of a father had, surely she could have gone anywhere. She should have left the country and never returned.”

Nothing is adding up. “Hopefully, the clubhouse holds more details.”

Forty minutes later and I’m pulling into the Dirty Demons clubhouse. Rocco’s already here, and I’m surprised when I find Jade isn’t with him. I’m curious whether or not he’s informed her that I’m set to marry, and if he has, does she know all the details?

“Boss,” Dario says with a grin. The fucker just likes to infuriate Rocco. Our brother has told him multiple times that when it’s just the three of us, we don’t need to be so formal, but Dario just loves to push his buttons.

Roc shakes his head. “Want to explain what we’re doing here?”

“Elio met his fiancé last night, so we’re trying to get as much information on her as possible.”

Rocco’s brows raise. “You found her?”

I slide my hands into my pockets. “Wasn’t too hard,” I say as Dario grins. That fucker is determined as any when he gets going.

“So where is she?”

“In my apartment.” I put her in a place where my men are. The apartment complex is for the Famiglia. Every apartment is occupied by a made man. They all have their instructions to watch her. She leaves, I’m going to know, and there will be a man on her at all times.

Rocco nods as we walk toward the clubhouse door. “You work fast, brother. Has she agreed to the union?”
