“I like women, but I don’t have a death wish. No one is stupid enough to go up against the Gallagher’s. Besides, your wife is extremely protective of the girl. I love Jade, but Christ, she’s vicious.”

I smirk. My sister-in-law is definitely vicious. She’s also extremely vengeful. The woman took down everyone who assaulted her while she was in jail, and she had no fucking mercy in doing so. It was awesome to watch.

“I’ll bring her to Indianapolis untouched. I’ll hand her off to Hayden and Ade and then my job is done.”

Rocco chuckles. “She’s eighteen, Elio. She’s not a fucking ticking time bomb.”

I shrug. “Same thing. Is she ready?”

He shakes his head, smiling, as he leads me into the house. “Yes. She and Jade are having coffee.”

I glance at my watch and see that if I leave in the next ten minutes, I’ll be back in Indianapolis by lunchtime. Thank God for that. I can’t be stuck babysitting for the rest of the day.

* * *

There are aroundten bikers on my tail. None of them are wearing any cuts. At first, I thought it was the Dirty Demons, but those assholes always wear their cuts. They take credit for everything they do. So who the fuck is it and what the hell do they want?

Chloe’s eyes widen as she realizes something’s not right. The fuckers rev their engines as they edge closer and closer. Whatever the fuck they want, they’re not going to get it. Hell no.

“Fuck,” I growl when I see a van coming toward us. These fuckers set this up. I swerve to the left, reaching over for Chloe, needing to ensure that she’s okay. I push her head down to her knees. “Get down.”

The van slams into the side of the car. I glance at Chloe and see the fear shining in her eyes. Her mouth is open, but no sound comes out. If she screams, I know she’s alive. My car flips as we hit the barrier at the side of the road. I’m thrown forward, my shoulders jarring as the seatbelt locks, stopping me from going anywhere.

The car continues to roll, over and over again. Chloe’s scream is filled with terror. It’s a fucking sound I never want to hear again. Christ. There’s a sickening thud, and I watch as Chloe’s eyes start to close, blood seeping from her head.

“Open your eyes, Chloe,” I snarl. Fuck! I need her to open those damn eyes.

It’s too late. She’s sunk into the darkness. Finally, we stop flipping, and thankfully, we land upright.

Footsteps sound, and I hear shouting. Those fuckers are getting closer. I try to slide my hand down to my knife and gun, but I’m completely pinned. Fuck.

My door is pulled open, and I’m face to face with a masked fucker. No cut.

“Well, if it isn’t Elio Gallo,” the masked fucker says as he pulls the cigarette from his lips and blows out a puff of smoke. “You sure are a fucking headache, aren’t you?”

I don’t answer him. I grit my teeth. Who the hell is he? He sure as fuck knows me, but unlike him, I’m no coward. I won’t hide behind a mask. If I’m going to kill someone, I’ll make sure they know exactly who it is who’s ending their life.

“It’s time to teach you a lesson, Gallo.” He reaches for my shirt and pulls the buttons off. His eyes darken with rage, and I’m fucking pinned. There’s nothing I can do. No matter how fucking hard I try to fight against the hold of the seatbelt, I’m unable to move. My hands are stuck, as is my body.

He sucks on the cigarette, pulling in a deep breath of nicotine. His smirk is filled with menace as he brings the lit cigarette to my chest, pushing the red-hot tip into my skin. Pain hits me, as does the smell of burning flesh. I strain against the hold while listening to the fucker laugh. It’s no use. I can’t fucking move.

The asshole takes the opportunity to continue with his torment. Over and over again, he burns me with the red-hot cherry of the cigarette. Fifteen burn marks mar my skin. Some are deeper than others, but all of them are going to leave scars. Fucking cunt. The second I find out who they are, I’m going to come for him. I’m going to kill him.

He throws his seventh cigarette to the floor, crushing it with his boot. “Good luck, Gallo,” he snarls as he brings his gun out. “No one knows you're here. I doubt anyone will find you before you die.”

“Wrong,” I hiss through the pain. “When I find out who you are, you fucking coward, you’re going to die. Not me. You.”

His laughter pisses me the fuck off. He thinks he’s going to get away with this? Not a fucking chance. He brings the gun down against my temple, pistol whipping me, and there’s nothing I can fucking do as the darkness hits me.

My last thought is of Chloe, and that I hope she’s okay.

TWO

ELIO

“You’re okay.” I hear the Irish brogue of my sister-in-law. “Elio, did you hear me?”

“Yes,” I grind out. There’s a fucking pounding in my head, and my chest feels as though it’s on fire. “Where’s Chloe?”
