“Bruno is watching Lino. That fucker is the slipperiest of them all,” I growl. I fucking hate Lino, always have done. He’ll walk into a room and act as though he’s better than everyone in it. He still treats Rocco as though he’s just an underboss. For that alone, the fucker should have been put down ages ago. “As for Stefano, Leo’s watching him.” We’ve made sure that they are all being watched. Not one of them do we trust fully. Everyone has a price; you just have to find out what it is. For those men, money speaks louder than loyalty.

“I’ll call them and see if they still have them in sight. If they do, it just leaves us to find Alberto and Diego Snr.”

“Fuck. Call Diego Jnr, see if he can get his father to us. I want those fuckers found, Mattia,” I snarl. “I want them found today.”

“On it, boss,” he says, and I end the call just as Lorenzo slides into the front seat.

“We got a problem,” I tell him.

He shakes his head. “Yeah, that was Andrea,” he hisses. “Rocco’s made the rounds. Only Niccolò has eyes on his man. Everyone else has fucking vanished.”

Well fuck. “They’re planning something,”

He nods. “They are, but the question is: what?”

My cell buzzes with an incoming text.

Teagan: Someone’s here. There are at least two men. Elio, they’re going to kill me.

My blood runs cold at the message. “Lorenzo,” I snap. “Someone’s at the house.” I hit call on Teagan’s number as Lorenzo’s eyes harden. He starts the car and drives toward Teagan. She ends the call, and fear grips me. What the fuck is going on?

My cell buzzes once again with another message from Teagan.

Teagan: They’re in the house. I’m hiding, Elio. Please, I can’t take the call. They may find me.

She’s alive. Fuck. She’s alive. But for how much longer? I need to get to her. “Lorenzo, someone has made it into the fucking house. Teagan’s alone,” I snarl, my fingers moving quickly to type back a reply to her. The chokehold fear has me in is almost paralyzing.

Elio: I’m on my way. I promise you, mia amata, I’m coming. They’re not going to hurt you.

“They’re going after her,” he grunts, his fingers tight on the steering wheel.

“Question is,” I begin, my leg jumping as I rely on Lorenzo to drive us to the house. “How the fuck did they know she was going to be alone?”

He shakes his head, his jaw ticking.

I call Rocco, hoping he’s closer than I am. “You heard then,” he says, his words angry. My brother’s ready to kill, and it’s only going to be a matter of time before he snaps. Unfortunately for him, I’ll be the one to snap first.

“Roc, someone’s in the fucking house,” I grunt. “They’ve broken into the house and Teagan’s on her own.”

I hear movement, the sound of angry cursing, no doubt coming from Dario or Jade. “We’re on our way,” he tells me. “I’m calling Jade too.”

“We’re at least fifteen minutes out.” I look at the dashboard. The speedometer rises as Lorenzo pushes the car faster and faster. “Get to my wife, Roc.”

“She’ll be fine,” he says, trying to reassure me.

“She fucking better be,” I hiss. The pain I feel at the thought of losing her is too fucking much.

The car ride is filled with tension, Lorenzo pushing the car faster. The speedometer is hitting over a hundred now. “Cunts,” he snarls. “Once we get our hands on them, we’ll show them what the fuck happens when you come after our own.”

Lorenzo’s loyalty extends to Teagan as my wife. He’ll do whatever it takes to ensure her safety. For someone—one of our own—to go after her, it’s the biggest fucking mistake anyone could make.

Twelve minutes later and he’s pulling into the driveway. I’m out of the car before Lorenzo pulls to a stop. I run toward the front door, gun in my hand, ready to kill anyone who’s inside.

I move through the house, Lorenzo right behind me, both of us with our guns drawn. I’m praying that Teagan’s still hiding, that she’s safe. The house is empty. Completely fucking empty. Whoever was here is now gone.

“Boss,” Lorenzo calls, and I turn to him. He tilts his head toward the French doors, which are open. Now I know how the fuckers got in and out of the house. The questions is: how did they do it undetected? They shouldn’t have made it into the house. This is twice security has failed Teagan. The last time was when her friend died.

“Teagan?” I yell as I start checking behind doors, under the couch, anywhere I think she may have used as a hiding place.
