“Yeah?”
“I’m not…this kind of woman,” she said. “I don’t hook up with random men in hotel bars.”
He nodded. It made no difference to him if she wasthat kind of woman, but she seemed to feel it was important. “There’s a first time for everything, right?”
“I think it’s you. You bring it out in me.”
That was so hot he almost ignited. It was all he could do not to throw her back on the bed and take her right then and there. But he needed to make sure this was handled carefully.
If she knew who he was, she might not want to go through with it. But he also couldn’t risk her hating or resenting him in the morning. He still needed her help desperately.
“This is what you want?” He reached down and popped open the top button of her misaligned shirt.
God, she was hot. She was driving him crazy. And it didn’t help when she looked up at him and bit her lip.
“Yeah,” she breathed shakily. “I want it.”
“Tell me why.”
“I never let myself have any fun. I always think too much. Worry too much. It would be nice to not think for one night.”
“I can do that for you. We can have all kinds of fun. And you don’t have to think at all.”
Her eyes slipped half closed and she inhaled shakily.
He hesitated just a moment longer. What if shedidregret it in the morning?
But then the decision was taken out of his hands.
Amy fell backward onto the bed, reaching up to catch the collar of his shirt in her hand so that she could drag him down with her. He landed on top of her, and she wrapped her legs around his waist. Instantly, he felt enveloped in the heat of her, and there was no longer any chance of resisting.
Somehow, they managed to get their clothes off without pulling apart from one another. When they were skin to skin, Adriano took a moment to relax and relish in the feeling. How long had it been since he had been close to a woman? Months, certainly. It hadn’t happened since before he had started feeling the symptoms of his condition. He simply hadn’t felt like it.
It was wonderful to know that this part of him was still alive and well—that he hadn’t lost everything that used to make life worth living.
She wrapped an arm around his shoulders and kissed him.
And, just as he had hoped would happen, Adriano found himself forgetting everything.
He wasn’t a patient. He wasn’t a man who was slowly dying. He was just a man with a woman, and this was something he had always loved, something he had always been good at.
He took his time, kissing her slowly, running his hands all over her body as if he was mapping the terrain, teasing her with light touches until eventually she was arching and moaning beneath him. When he knew he could take it no more, he pulled back enough to look her in the eyes. “Yeah?”
“Yes,” she moaned. “God, yes. Do it.”
Enveloped in the delicious heat of her, Adriano’s body took over completely. This was something that came naturally, something he didn’t have to think about, and he was relieved to see that—unlike almost everything else physical he’d tried to do in recent months—he hadn’t lost any of his capabilities here. As for Amy, it was clear by the way she clung to him, by the way her body rose to meet each thrust, that she was getting everything she’d hoped for out of the experience.
“Oh, God,” she moaned. “I’m going to—”
The blissful expression on her face was enough to push Adriano over the edge. His mind went blank, Amy’s ecstatic moans filling his ears as she clenched around him.
Afterward, he lay back on the pillows and tried to pull her in to rest against his shoulder. She acquiesced for a moment, but then she pulled away and sat up.
“Is everything all right?” he asked her.
She smiled at him, green eyes sparkling. “That was great,” she assured him. “That was just what I needed. It’s just that I have an early morning tomorrow.”
He nodded. Truth be told, it was better that she didn’t stay. Now that the passion had been quenched, it was only a matter of time before the conversation turned to names. He wouldn’t be able to avoid telling her who he was, and then things would get awkward.
