“Wait, they do?” I look at him as he rolls his eyes.

“I see you’re presenting symptoms yourself. Think you can hold it together long enough for us to grab our girl?”

“Don’t be a dick just because she likes me better than you,” I growl, stepping over Dillon’s dead body and heading for the door with my gun raised.

I crack the door open and peer out, finding the corridor empty. I close it and face Zig. “So, what’s the plan?”

“Right now, we’re winging it.”

I pause, my mouth dropping open in shock. “Did you, my anally uptight brother, who always has to have a plan, just say he was winging it? Dear God, you have a brain tumor, don’t you?”

“The door closed?”

“Yeah,” I reply with a frown.

“Good,” he says before shooting his newly acquired gun. A bullet whizzes past my ear and embeds itself into the wall behind me.

“Okay, so no brain tumor,” I mutter.

Ignoring me, he moves to stand beside me. “Our primary objective is getting back to Salem. Because if they take her off site, we’ll never find her.”

“Well, the coast is clear, but we need to figure out an exit strategy.”

“Keep your eyes peeled for anything that might be useful.”

I nod before checking the corridor out again. “Alright, let’s go before anyone else shows up and raises the alarm.” I step into the corridor with Zig right behind me. I look down at my shirt as he closes the door and sigh.

I forgot about all the blood. “Salem is going to freak out when she sees this.”

“We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.” He signals for me to follow him down the corridor, so I do, watching his back as we go. He stops when we reach the next hallway and peeks around the corner before dropping back and indicating there are two hostiles.

I nod, look down at my shirt, and smirk. Might as well use it to our advantage.

“Help me, oh fuck, someone help me,” I groan, dropping to my hands and knees.

Zig looks at me sharply before he slips back into the shadows. Booted footsteps race toward us as I crawl forward, dragging myself into the open. As soon as the first guard steps up to me, I roll onto my back and let him see all the blood on my shirt.

“Denny,” he yells, bending down for a closer look. I hear a curse, followed by more footsteps heading in our direction.

“What the fuck is he doing out here? I thought they were being taken care of,” he snaps, stepping up to me, which puts him directly in front of Zig.

“Looks like he escaped. I’ll check on the others.”

“No need.” I grin before punching him in the throat.

Denny grabs his gun as Zig steps forward and wraps his arms around Denny’s head, yanking hard and snapping his neck. He drops to the floor beside a gasping Mark, who holds his crushed windpipe.

Climbing to my feet, I stand above Mark and wink at him before I lift my foot and stomp it down on his neck. An audible crack sounds before the man goes limp and his eyes roll back.

“Let’s dump these two back with the others,” Zig states, bending down and tossing Denny over his shoulder.

I grab Mark’s feet and drag him back to the room we were just in. Zig opens the door and tosses Denny inside like he was a broken toy. I pull Mark in and close the door, but it catches on something. I yank it harder and curse when it still doesn’t close.

Turning around, I realize Mark’s head is trapped in the door. “Oops.” I kick it free and slam the door shut. “That’s five assholes down. I wonder how many more will join them before we leave.”

“As many as it fucking takes,” Zig snarls, beyond pissed off right now.

We jog toward the room we left Salem in and shove the doors open.
