I try to open my mouth to tell him I’m not his fucking wife, but my body won’t respond.

He chuckles, finding humor in my helplessness, as he releases my jaw and lets my head fall forward. “Don’t worry. There will be plenty of time to get reacquainted with each other.” He reaches forward and cups my breast before sliding his fingers to my nipple and twisting savagely.

A scream tears apart my insides, but nothing comes out as he grins and licks the path my tears took before standing up and moving to the back of the chair. “Now, be a good little girl. I don’t need you to be conscious for all the things I want to do to you. Keep that in mind before you cause any trouble.”

He wheels me out the door, only stopping long enough to explain to my guards that he’s taking me for a scan as I appear to have had some kind of seizure. Denny says something about calling it in, but anything else they might say is lost on me as I slip into unconsciousness.

Thankfully, whatever Alejandro injected me with burns through my system, and I start to recover far quicker than he expected. I’m not sure where I am, but it’s noisy with the sounds of other people walking around as we move past them. I’m still in the wheelchair, and from the smell of the place, I’d say I’m still in the clinic. Absolute relief washes through me, but I keep my body loose and hunched over, not wanting to give myself away.

The noise becomes quieter as we pass through a set of double doors and move down another corridor. He opens a door at the end of the corridor and wheels me inside. When we stop, I crack my eyes open to pitch black. Within seconds, the light is flicked on, revealing what looks like an MRI machine. I tense, waiting for him to drag me out of the chair. But the sound of the door opening behind us makes me swallow down another wave of nausea. One-on-one, Alejandro will already have the advantage. But two-on-one means I won’t stand a chance.

“Good, you have her,” a voice says from behind me. It’s vaguely familiar, but I can’t place it.

“I told you I would get her,” Alejandro states angrily.

“You have an hour to do what you need to do, then we’ll be gone. Don’t make me come find you, Alejandro. I’m a good ally to have, but cross me, and I’ll make one hell of an enemy.”

Alejandro curses in Spanish, practically spitting the words before he speaks. “An hour is not long enough. What if she does not wake up before then? She cannot heal me if she is unconscious.”

“Then you should have thought about that before you knocked her out.”

There is some shuffling, then a crash as Alejandro is tossed to the floor, taking an IV pole with him.

“An hour, and I’ll be back. If you hurt her, I’ll break you into fucking pieces and feed you to my pigs.”

“I never hurt her. I never touched her.”

“Do you think I’m a stupid man, Alejandro? Do you think I didn’t have a man in your camp watching your every move? You never raped her like the animal I know you to be, which is the only reason I’m giving you an hour with her and not running you through with my knife.”

Alejandro jumps to his feet and pulls out his knife, but the man behind me tuts. “If you want your drugs back, you’ll back the fuck-up,” he snarls, making Alejandro freeze.

I watch Alejandro through my squinted eyes and see how hard it is for him to hold himself back when all he wants to do is kill the guy.

“Fine,” he spits. “But when I need her services again, you will allow me to use her.”

“As long as she isn’t pregnant at the time, deal.”

My heart stops at the man’s words. Pregnant? I don’t know why I never considered that angle before. Instead of experimenting on me, they could just impregnate me and steal my child. If they know anything about my history, they’ll know whatever makes my gift possible is in my genes. I’ll kill myself before I ever let that happen.

The man opens the door to leave. “You have fifty-five minutes now. Better make it count,” he taunts before closing the door.

Alejandro stares at the door, his chest heaving, before his eyes come to me. Before I can do anything, his hand is in my hair, yanking me from the chair. I hiss in pain as my legs give out on me.

“Stupid puta,” he snarls before throwing me onto the hospital bed.

I try to roll off, but he’s on me before I can make my move, trapping my hands behind my back as he leans down over me.

“You are not worth the fucking headache. He thinks he can control me? Fuck him, and fuck you too. The man wants you to have babies. Well, I’ll give you a fucking baby.”

His hands move to the waistband of my shorts when I shriek at him, “The cancer is back. I can feel it. It’s in your brain.”

He pauses before standing back up and spinning me around. When he releases my hands, I yank the syringe out of my pocket and hold it against my leg as I thumb the tip off the end of the needle. He pushes against me, trapping my legs against the bed as he grins in my face like something out of my nightmares.

“Then you’d better heal me because if you don’t, I’ll fuck you until you bleed out. If I’m going to die, I’ll take you with me.”

“I…I’ll do it. I’ll heal you. Please, just don’t hurt me.”

“Ah, Salem, pain is where the pleasure is.”
