“My name’s Rachel. You applied for a nanny position.”

Oh my God. Oh my God. It’s the job I really wanted.

“Yes.” I can barely hold my excitement in.

“I would like for you to come to the clubhouse and meet with me,” Rachel says.

“Clubhouse?” I furrow my brow, not understanding. When I’d dropped the application off, it was at a strip club. I figured it was for one of the employees there.

“The Devil’s Riot MC clubhouse,” she explains. “You know where it is?”

Oh, I know where the Devil’s Riot MC clubhouse is and who they are. Everyone knows who they are. I swallow nervously and clutch my phone in my hand. “I know where it is. What time would be good for you?”

“Are you available now?”

I glance up at the store and nod. “Sure, I’ll head over there.”

“Great. I’ll give your name to the prospect at the gate. Just tell them your name and they’ll let you in,” she says and hangs up without waiting for me to respond.

With shaky hands, I put my car in reverse, straighten, and then put it in drive, thinking my luck may have changed.

* * *

Holy shit.

Never in my life did I think I would be in this clubhouse. It’s pretty nice and spacious.

But that doesn’t have anything on the woman standing in front of me. She’s a gorgeous dark-haired beauty. One that could easily be on a runway.

“So happy you were able to come in.” Rachel beams. “My ol’ man is the President of the Devil’s Riot, and I help him out around here along with the brothers. Hence my reason for calling you.”

I nod, though I really don’t understand.

“Anyway, let’s sit down and get to know each other a little. I’m a pretty good judge of character, and I need to make sure you’ll fit in and take care of Cyprus’s little sister.”

“Cyprus?”

“Yeah, he’s the one looking for a nanny,” she informs me. “Now, you know this is a live-in position, correct?”

“I saw that, and it wouldn’t be a problem.” It was actually perfect. I’d be able to sleep at night and not worry about someone breaking into my room.

“Great.” Clasping her hands in front of her, she smiles brightly. “Tell me what made you apply for this position.”

I clench my hands together and try not to give away that this is uncomfortable. But I intend to be as honest as possible. “With the flexibility, I would be able to also take care of my parents, who depend on me.”

“So, while Bride is in school, you would be taking care of your parents?” she asks, her brows drawing up and meeting.

“Yes, they’re . . . they’re not well and I take care of them. I will be honest and tell you because of them I lost my last job at a daycare facility because I would have to leave suddenly to take care of them during the day.”

“Oh, I know. I spoke with Nancy over at your last job, and she told me, but she also explained that you are excellent with children. Said you know sign language?”

“I do.” I nod, lift my hands up, and sign as I speak again. “There were a couple of children there who had trouble hearing and signing was a good way of communicating.”

“Impressive,” Rachel says, staring at my hands. “So, tell me, on the days that Bride doesn’t have school or during the hours that she’s with you, what will you do with your parents?”

I suck in a breath and shake my head. “I would make other arrangements.” Meaning I will deal with the consequences of not doing what they want at a later date. It won’t be the first time or the last. I shudder at the thought and push it to the back of my mind.

Rachel opens her mouth to speak but shuts it and smiles when the door behind me opens and closes. “Oh good, you’re here. I’d like you to meet someone,” she says, standing. I follow suit, and she goes to introduce me. “This is Noelle.”
