Page 41 of Cyprus's Truth

“Don’t even think about coming any closer,” Raven snaps.

I glance around the room nervously while Hector takes both Raven and Harlow in. I know the guys are all busy and the only ones watching over us are the prospects, which causes my fear tenfold.

Seeing Victoria is still holding her one son while the other has wrapped his arms around her leg, I can’t let anything happen to one of these women.

“Do you think you can stop me?” Hector chuckles and waves to his men. A second later, two bodies are brought into the room, and Hector locks his gaze with mine. A thump hits the floor as his men drop the bodies, and I glance down to see it’s my supposed mom and Cyprus’s. “Noelle, I know you, bebé,and you don’t want me to do the same to these beautiful women.”

“Please leave them alone,” I whisper, tears streaming down my cheeks.

“Then come here.”

“Don’t do it.” At the command, I whip my head around to see Twister and Horse standing just in the hall. Both are holding guns at the ready.

I shake my head, knowing there are children in the room along with a few elsewhere. I don’t want anything to happen to any of them. I look at Twister and step toward Hector. “I’m sorry, but there are too many lives at stake.”

“Babe, don’t do it,” Horse growls and steps forward.

“Noelle, just back away,” Harlow remarks.

“No, she’s right,” Raven says quietly, catching me off guard. “There are too many innocents here, and death is right around the corner.”

I don’t know what she means, but Hector doesn’t give me a chance to contemplate it either. Grabbing hold of my upper arm with a bruising grip, he walks backward, dragging me with him.

“Don’t think to do anything stupid.” Hector laughs. “Noelle has been mine and will remain that way.” Glancing down at me, he smirks. “Now, let’s go,mi dulce bebé, we have places to be.”

I glance back at the others, taking in all the different expressions of rage, fear, and confusion. “I’m sorry.”

Hector drags me through the doors and out into the cool night air. For some reason, everything felt too easy. But maybe they’re all letting me go.

Without a word, Hector drags me toward his vehicle. I don’t miss that his men left the battered women inside with the others. One of the men opens the back door of the SUV, and Hector all but tosses me inside. He stays just in the doorway and talks to his men for a moment, and an idea pops into my head. Now that he’s no longer inside where the kids are, I could get away.

I watch Hector while scooting to the other side. I grip the handle, and before anyone can question me, I throw the door open, hop out and take off into the bleak darkness. I don’t know which direction I’m heading, but I’m at least running away from the clubhouse and the others.

Behind me, I hear the sounds of yelling, but I don’t look back. If I do, it’ll only slow me down. I have to get away from them all. Lead Hector away . . . all I want to do is keep him away from the others.

Hitting the tree line, I keep going dodging trees. I ignore everything else, along with my racing heart. My sides cramp and after a while, my steps fumble. Tree limbs and twigs snag against my clothes. Thorns from vines prick at my skin. I try to push myself to keep going, and I lose my footing and end up falling to the ground. I go to get back on my feet only to slip and fall.

I cry out as my head bounces off something, probably a fallen log or a stump. My vision blurs, and I roll to my back, giving up. There’s only one thing I can do at this point.

Pray.

Pray that I ran far enough.

Pray Hector won’t find me out here.

And hope.

Hope that everyone is okay.

Hope I survive through the night.

Hope Cyprus will come for me.

CHAPTER25

CYPRUS

Pulling up to the clubhouse, my gut churns at the sight before me. The lights are blazing, leaving no shadows in the dark parking area. Roughly half a dozen men are on the ground, hands behind their heads. All my brothers that stayed behind stood over them. Their faces grim.
