This means, of course, him too. He needs to keep his mouth shut. And Tizio. Not that he’s here.

“He met her,” says Scarlett.

“I like her.” Which is putting it mildly, but that’s all I’m gonna say. I’m not one for chitchat. I leave the gossiping to the women.

This is work adjacent, so . . .

“It’s not we don’t want Leo and Theo and Christian to know, but you know.”

I do. I’ve got way more leeway than those three in stepping into Lowlander territory, and while the two women here have the most, no way are they gonna get away with putting themselves in danger.

“This came for her.” I pull the card from my back pocket and hand it over, and I can practically feel Diego breathing down my neck to see what the fuck’s going on.

Mia and Scarlett both frown at the card.

Scarlett looks up. “Sketchy.”

“Avah wasn’t a fan,” I say.

Mia’s mouth tightens. “Like when that pretty lingerie came.”

“We thought it was from some boyfriend.” Scarlett shakes her head. “But the way she reacted, nope.”

“After what happened to me and Blake, I just don’t want her going through anything.” Mia pales slightly, and I can’t blame her. That shit was fucked and marked us all.

“Got it.” What I want to do is tell her she can’t save the world, but I don’t. She’d have me by the balls instantly, then Christian would come in fucking pissed. That’s the last thing I need. “I’ll help keep an eye on her, see if anything’s up.”

“Thanks, Nicolo.” Scarlett smiles, nodding.

I make my goodbyes and start to the door when a hand grabs my arm. “The fuck, dude?” Diego’s real big on words sometimes. “Brother’s? Like Brother’s Shack Bar and Grill?”

“What of it?”

“That’s Lowlander, man. You know how they are. And something’s going on. They’re jumpier than usual.”

“Finger on the pulse, Diego?”

He breathes out. “Something like that. I keep an ear to the ground. Heard some talk.”

“Like what?”

My gut knots. The fact Diego’s giving me a warning doesn’t sit well.

“New blood in their outfit.”

“Outfit’s a little too fucking high faulting for them.”

He snorts a laugh. “The OG Lowlanders are an outfit. I’ve gone with Christian several times when he’s had to deal with them or their people. Just supply and demand shit. But they are one.”

“With a lot of loose threads,” I point out.

“True that, but as I said, they got some new fucking blood, and that blood is dark. That’s what I keep hearing. Make sure those two little bleeding hearts there aren’t getting you caught up in a honey pot that hides a load of hornets,” he advises, jerking his chin toward Scarlett and Mia.

He lets go of me, and I pat his back. “All grown up now, Diego. But I’ll inform Tiz.” I snort, shaking my head.

“Good, man.”
