“I would’ve stopped using your mouth and thrown you to the floor.”

“I want to be tied up again.”

He kisses the words from my lips, his fingers penetrating me to the last knuckle. It’s impossible to catch my breath, an orgasm exploding out of me. I’ve barely stopped contracting around his fingers before he pulls them free and reaches for the rope. I lift my bum off the mattress as he laces it around my waist and then down each thigh.

“No hands or feet. We’ll just get you acclimatised to the feel of it,” he murmurs, tying the end loosely.

Seeing the rope spiralled around my limbs looks vaguely pretty, my mind worry-free. But there’s no time to dwell on it because Max shifts onto his knees, straddles my hips and impales me. “This what you need?”

Friction makes my skin burn, but I manage to lift my legs a little, my feet interlocking around his calves. Like a man possessed, he fucks me, his body a coiling mass of pent-up energy. “Yes. It’s the only way to keep me.”

Keep me from slipping back into the past.

Keep me sane.

Keep me forever.

On the anniversary of my abduction, we marry. The honeymoon will be ten days, more than covering every single twenty-four-hour period that I was lost and hurt. Those awful days of October will be forgotten, replaced with laughter, with devotion and love.

“Mrs. Ava de Vries,” Max husks in my ear, biting at the lobe. “Did I tell you today that I love you?”

He loves referring to me as his already, tied to him in body and name. And I love hearing it too, the name change feeling like a resurrection. The old me has found a new path, a new life. One that’s born through the demanding love and protection of the man above me, surrounding me, inside me.

A fresh wave of heat ripples through me as I come, and I know that I can say goodbye to Ava Rivas. That woman was lost, never to exist again.

And from the ashes of my past, Ava de Vries will dust off her fire-bright wings and soar.

EPILOGUE

MAX

The black-gowned andtuxedoed quartet entertains us with familiar classical music, the opulent room decorated in gold and white. Impatient, my pulse races as I wait for Ava to enter the grand room and walk towards me.

Friends, family and titans of the fashion, media and celebrity world talk animatedly from their seats as the last minutes tick by. The only person of any significance not here is Ava’s mother. But that was her call, and she decided her fame-hungry mother was better left out of the celebrations.

Too stressful, Ava explained.Believe me.

My best man, Ellis, stands at my side, his chest puffed out with pride. But it’s me who’s standing taller today—for many reasons. Firstly, because my soon-to-be-wife istall, and I need every inch I can get. But secondly, because this woman demands my respect and admiration for everything she’s already conquered.

Her bravery, her forgiveness, her trust in me is astounding.

My ushers, Laurence, Mal and Daw offer me anything from a wink to a smirk to a thumbs up. Ben, who’s basically my deputy best man, nods sagely at me. He was wrong; Avadidneed me. I was exactly who she needed, and maybewhatshe needed. But thoughts of the honeymoon and working through a list of kinks can wait. Right now, all I care about is getting my ring on her finger and the legalities taken care of.

Nervous, I jab my hand through my hair before straightening the Armani jacket and checking the buttons of my waistcoat. Then I reposition the Rolex on my wrist. “Have you got the rings?” I murmur to Ellis.

“For the forty-seventh time, yes.”

I roll my eyes.

“Have you packed your dick today?” he asks smugly. “Seems like you swapped it out for a pussy.”

I chuckle. “At least I don’t get tongue-tied when I talk to beautiful women.”

“Fuck you,” he throws back playfully.

“I’m not sure I’ve ever seen you crash and burn so spectacularly. You must have it bad.”

He chuffs. “Looks like it’s going to be the back-up best man speech after all,” he threatens. “The one with all the embarrassing stories you’re desperate to keep hidden.”
