What?My boiling blood turned to ice.

Vance faced Ethan with a growl. “How would you fucking know?”Good question, Vance.

“Because you’ve been dishing out pathetic excuses to Daisy for months.”

I blinked away tears.Months?Ethan had known for months?

Panic flickered through Vance’s expression as he turned back to me. “Are you seriously going to believe this trailer trash over me?”

“Yeah…I am.” Rage surged through my body as I stepped toward him. “And if you ever call Ethan trailer trash again, I’ll rip your balls off.”

Vance’s eyes darkened as they penetrated mine. “I knew you were fucking him.”

“I never touched her…” Ethan intervened, seeming to come to my rescue, until he smirked. “Until she told me it was over.”

“You fucking prick!” Vance launched at Ethan, splitting his lip with a strike to the face.

Ethan touched his mouth with a chuckle, only making Vance angrier.

As he attempted to take another swipe, my brother caught his wrist and spun it behind his back, making Vance cry out. “You have some nerve coming here,” Flynn hissed into his ear. “Especially after what you did.”

“So, you’d prefer she spread her legs for this charity case?” He motioned to Ethan with revulsion.

Flynn yanked his arm a little harder. “You better shut your fucking mouth.”

“Okay, okay!” Vance held up his free hand in surrender. “I’ll go.”

“Good idea.” Flynn released his arm, making Vance stumble forward with a grunt.

“You’re making a terrible decision, Daisy,” Vance called out as I turned toward the apartment. “Who’s going to look after you now?”

Tears welled in my eyes at the pathetic realization. Vance thought I was weak. Hell, maybe I was.

“Perhaps if you’d dressed like a slut for me, I wouldn’t have looked elsewhere.”

My hand froze on the door handle as Ethan launched back, tackling Vance to the ground. Fortunately, Flynn intercepted his fist and pulled him away. “He’s not worth it, Ethan,” he said, pushing him toward where I stood, completely dumbstruck.

Vance returned to his feet and glared at me. “Ethan’s the one who isn’t worth shit.”

Flynn spun around and punched Vance straight in the nose. “Don’t ever go near my family again,” he uttered before calmly following Ethan and me inside the building.

The silence in the elevator was deafening as we rose to the penthouse. As soon as the doors opened, I stormed into the apartment, ripped open the freezer, and grabbed an old package of frozen peas.

“You idiot.” I tossed them at Flynn as he rubbed his reddening knuckles.

Ethan joined me in the kitchen as my brother moved on to the living room. “Hey…” His gaze softened. “Are you okay?”

“You,” I growled, poking his solid chest. “Don’t even talk to me.”

As his jaw dropped, I pushed past his solid body and marched to my room, slamming the door on all the stupid fucking men in my life.

ETHAN

The smell of pancakes pulled me from my enduring nightmares and into a blissful memory of the morning Jill and Cam asked if they could adopt me. Although my answer was no, it was my favorite day. I’d never felt so loved and wanted, and I wished I could go back and explain my real reason for refusing.

They had saved me from a tortured life, and given the chance, I would’ve donated any goddamn body part to keep them alive after the accident. The world needed more people like them.
