“Since when do you drink beer?” Ethan leaned against the stovetop as he observed the two of us, clearly amused by the size difference also.

I sipped the disgusting amber liquid. “Since about two weeks ago.” After Ethan left, I drank everything left in the fridge.

“What happened two weeks ago?” Flynn mumbled through a cookie-filled mouth.

My gaze traveled to Ethan and narrowed. “You didn’t tell him?”

The blood drained from Ethan’s face, satisfying me greatly.

“Tell me what?” Flynn's worried gaze passed between us.

I stewed on it for a while before the words rose like bile. “Vance and I broke up.”

Flynn’s last cookie crumbled to the floor. “Are you shitting me?!” He scowled at Ethan. “And you knew this? Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I don’t spread rumors,” Ethan muttered as he took another bite of his cookie.

“It’s not a rumor if it’s true,” I spat back.

“Yeah.” He chortled. “Whatever.”

“Daise…” Flynn reached for my forearm, pulling my gaze from Ethan. “What the fuck happened?”

“I’d rather not go into the details,” I said, grimacing as I forced down another mouthful of beer.

“But you two have been together since…”

“Since my freshman year.” I closed my eyes. “Yeah, I know.”

“Who initiated it?”

I lifted my gaze with a shrug. “Me, I guess.”

“Fuck…” Flynn rubbed his stubbled jaw. “How did he take it?”

“Um…” I winced at the memory. “Not great.”

“Can you blame him, Daise? You’ve been together six years.”

My temper spiked. “Um, yeah, I can, actually, and you of all people should understand why.”

Flynn’s eyes turned to ice. “What did he do?”

I laughed, but it was merely to keep the tears from falling. “It’s more of awhothan awhat.”

Ethan’s face fell as Flynn’s eyes flared.

“Are you fucking kidding me?!” Flynn stood up to pace the room. “That piece of shit.”

“You didn’t tell me that,” Ethan whispered as he stepped toward the counter between us.

“I would have”—I refused to look his way—“if you’d stayed.”

Flynn composed himself and returned to his stool. “How did you find out?”

“He, um…”—I swallowed the lump in my throat—“told me he had to work late, so I thought I’d surprise him with dinner at work.”

Flynn looked away as Ethan’s jaw grew rigid.
