I groan as I turn my head to the side and my eyes flicker open for a second, the soft light trying to come in around the blackout drapes. I blink my eyes a couple more times before I turn over to my side and take in my surroundings. My eyes heavy with sleep, I force myself not to fall back asleep. I take in a deep breath before I turn back over and look over at the drapes. For the first time in a long time, I’ve woken up without this overwhelming pressure on my chest, and it can only be because of one person, and one person only. Gabriella.

I smile when I picture her again from yesterday, tossing the covers off myself. “Gabriella,” I say her name out loud to the empty suite, shaking my head and laughing at the shock on her face. To be honest, I had no idea how I would feel seeing her again. I knew in my head that I missed her. I knew, deep down in my heart, she was the one I let get away. I knew I have been working my way back to her. It was only when I stepped off the bike that it occurred to me it might have been all made up in my head. What if I did all this, and the minute I saw her, it wasn’t what I thought it was? I swear I stopped breathing the rest of the way to the door. Every single step matched my heartbeat, which echoed in my ear. Every single second waiting for her to open the door, my stomach got tighter and tighter. Then she opened the door, and everything just clicked into place. Everything was right in the world. Everything I had felt before coming here was just a small morsel of what I felt for her. Seeing her again just made what I felt for her so much more real. I also realized, at that moment, I loved her more than I thought I did.

The minute I heard her voice, I was taken right back to the first night I ever met her.

I was three seconds into the party when I spotted her walking into the room. I had never seen her before. Trust me, I would have remembered her. I watched her smile to a couple of people before making her way to the bar. I made my move right away. The minute she made the joke about her name being Juliet, I knew I wanted to spend more time with her. Everyone usually fawned over me, but not her. Not Gabriella.

In a matter of minutes, her hand was in mine as I led her out of the house. She walked down the steps, the sound of her heels clicking behind me. I stopped in front of the bike and grabbed the helmet. “This is for you.” I held it in my hand in her direction.

I expected her to scoff at two things, one that I was going to take her on a motorcycle, and two, that her hair would be ruined putting on a helmet. But not Gabriella, she just smiled at me. “This helmet better be clean,” she said before she put it on her head.

I laughed as I got on the bike and she waited for me to nod at her. “Why am I the only one wearing a helmet?” she asked me and I smirked at her. “Forget I asked. I can tell from your look that your head is thick.”

I couldn’t help but throw my head back and laugh at her. “Just hold on tight.”

“Yeah, yeah.” She rolled her eyes. “Take me for a ride, Mr. Hollywood,” she urged, and I kicked back the stand and revved the bike. She leaned forward and did not in fact hold on to me. No, she held on to my jacket.

I zigzagged through traffic until I got on the winding road that led to the beach. It was a ride I made often. It was a ride I took when I needed to clear my head. The wind blew my hair back as I looked behind me to make sure she was okay. The smile on her face told me she was fine, so I pushed the bike a bit faster until I rode into this little secluded parking lot. I turned the bike off before I felt her let go of my jacket. My hand braced tight as she disembarked from the bike.

“That was probably the best ride I’ve ever been on,” she stated as she took off the helmet, and again, didn’t bitch that her hair was ruined. “Where are we?” she asked as I got off the bike.

“A little secret place I know,” I replied as I held out my hand, waiting for her to give me back the helmet.

“So where you take all your conquests?” she joked as she handed me the helmet.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at her as I slipped my hand into hers. “See that tree over there?” I pointed over at the big oak tree. “That is where I make a mark for every conquest I bring here.”

Her eyes went big and I couldn’t hold the laughter in anymore. “I’m kidding.”

I pulled her toward the beach and she stopped just as I stepped on the sand. When I looked over, I expected to have to persuade her to come with me, but instead she had slipped off her shoes and bent to hold them in her hands. She surprised me at every single turn as she stepped onto the sand. “I’ve never been to this beach before,” she said as we walked into the darkness, the sound of the roaring waves in the distance. Houses started to come into view. “Is this private property?” she whispered as we walked in the back of one.

“We will find out,” is the only thing I said before I stopped and sat down. I held up my hand to help her sit but she just got onto her knees and sat beside me. “You aren’t like anyone I’ve ever met before.”

She laughed loudly and then put her hand in front of her mouth. “Well, I guess if that is the only compliment you give me tonight…” She leaned back on her hands as she stretched out her legs. “I’ll take it.” She looked over at me.

“What are you doing in LA?” I asked her instead of doing what I wanted to do, and that was kiss the hell out of her.

“School,” she replied as she looked out into the blackness of the sea. “I’m majoring in photography.”

I couldn’t even hide my shock to that. “I thought you were going to say acting or modeling.”

She shook her head. “Nope, I’m the one behind the camera.” She finally looked over at me. “What about you, Romeo? I take it you are the one in front of the camera.”

I didn’t even try to pace myself or take my time; instead I leaned in and kissed her. Her mouth opened for my tongue and it was as if I was zapped with electric shocks. My hand came up to hold her face. She turned into me, and in a blink of an eye she had straddled my lap.

“This is much better,” she said with a smirk, right before she kissed me.

The memory makes me smile and miss her even more. I slide open the shade in the bedroom, noticing it’s already a sunny day outside. I finish in the bathroom before I pick up the phone by my bed, pressing the room service button. The phone rings once before it’s picked up by a cheerful woman. “Good morning, Mr. Beckett.”

“Good morning,” I mumble. “Can I get a pot of coffee and some fresh orange juice?”

“Would you like anything to eat?” she asks.

“Sure, two eggs, over easy, would be good with white bread.”

“I’ll get that right up to you,” she responds. I hang up the phone before walking over and grabbing my jeans from the floor, when I hear my phone ringing.

Walking over to it, I see it’s Kristina. “Good morning,” I answer, sitting down on the couch in the living room area.
