As I washed my hands after taking care of business, I stared at my reflection. My skin was flushed pink, and I had a slight rash along my jaw and neck. There was more ruddiness on my breasts from Danny’s stubble. I prayed it would fade somewhat before I got home. Janie would take one look at me and know what I had been up to on my lunch date.

When I came out of the bathroom, Danny was pulling on his shirt. “I’m sorry, Macy, but I have to go.”

“It’s okay. Really,” I insisted when he made a doubtful expression. “I need to get back to Janie anyway.”

“Are you working tonight?”

“No. I don’t work again until tomorrow afternoon.”

“Is it okay if I send my guy over to get your car in an hour or so?”

“It should be.” I couldn’t take my eyes off his hands as he zipped his jeans and fastened his belt. My brain went straight to the dirtiest parts of my favorite romance books. I had always wanted to try some of the more erotic things I had read. Danny wouldn’t ever hurt me, even if I asked him to playfully spank me.

“Macy?” He tilted his head and studied me. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah.” I tore my gaze away from his hands and his belt. “I’m fine.”

He narrowed his eyes at me. “What were you thinking just now?”

“Nothing.”

“Macy.”

“What?” I was suddenly so embarrassed. A few minutes ago, he had been licking my breasts and thrusting his fingers inside me, and now I could barely meet his curious gaze. “It’s nothing.”

“Macy.” He stepped toward me. “Look at me.”

I didn’t want to, but I couldn’t deny that rough edge in his voice. I finally worked up the courage to meet his intense stare. “Yes?”

“Tell me.”

I started to tell him I couldn’t, but then I decided that if I wasn’t mature enough to talk about sex, I probably shouldn’t be thinking about having it. “I want to try things with you.”

“Okay.” His voice remained even. “What things?”

“Like sex things,” I said, trying to find the right words without sounding like an idiot. “Like maybe not vanilla things?”

“Okay.”

I blinked. “Okay?”

He shrugged. “We can try whatever you like. I’m game for anything really as long as we’re both enjoying ourselves.”

“Yeah?” I should have known he would be open to being adventurous.

“Yeah.” He reached out for my hand. “But I think we should master the basics first.”

“Right.” I let him tug me close and wrapped my arms around his waist. “The basics.”

He grinned, and my heart fluttered. When he lowered his mouth to seek mine, I met him halfway. It was a tender kiss, less sensuous and more reassuring. It grounded me in the moment, and I was glad for the gradual shift from sexy times back to real life.

After he washed up, we left his place and drove to the house Artyom had given us. He held my hand as he navigated the city, and I sensed he was heading out to do something that might not be very safe or legal. I didn’t push. If I needed to know, he would tell me, and frankly, I didn’t want to know if it would put me in more danger than I was in already.

“Don’t leave unless you absolutely have to, Macy.” He parked in front of the cottage and turned in his seat to make sure I was getting his full attention. “If you do need to leave, please message me. I’m not trying to control you. I’m trying to keep you safe.”

“I know.” I leaned over and kissed him. “I know, Danny.” I reached up and touched his cheek. “Please be careful doing whatever it is you’re going to do.”

“I will.” He captured my mouth in a lingering kiss. “Go on.” He gestured toward the house with a lift of his chin. “Before I get spanked by Artyom for being late.”
