Not aloud, anyway.

“Let’s just focus on you teaching me to control my magic, right now. We can be friend-mates, first. And when your instincts get too strong, we’ll cross that road.”

His shoulders relaxed slightly, though his jaw was still clenched. “I don’t want you to have to deal with them, Velvet.”

I changed the subject to avoid a pointless argument. “So to control my magic, I have to focus on controlling my emotions?”

He heaved a sigh, realizing exactly what I was doing. But he still nodded. “From what I understand, yes. You controlled them properly in the flames, when you brought yourself to me. Whatever you were thinking about then, it gave you the power you needed to channel them. It’s not about shutting down what you feel—it’s about embracing it, and accepting it.”

Oh, damn.

So I was going to have to embrace and accept the fact that I was Quake’s mate, if I was going to regain control of my power.

That was just peachy.

Chapter6

When no amountof silently repeating to myself,I am Odin’s mate, magically helped me control my flames, Quake decided we needed to take a walk, to clear our heads. He made a path in one of the stone walls, and I reluctantly walked beside him.

We didn’t hold hands—I wrapped my arms tightly around my tits, to stop the damn things from bouncing as I walked. I seriously needed a bra, but Bluhm didn’t have any fireproof clothing as far as I knew.

“Dammit, I need clothes,” I grumbled to him.

He laughed. “I offered to find you some.”

“I’d just burn them.”

“Why do you want them, then?”

“I’m not a small woman. I’ve got tits, and they bounce. It’s annoying.”

“Ah.”

When that was all he said, I looked over at him, and thought he looked a little embarrassed. His hands were tucked into his pockets, and when I lifted my hand to his cheek, it was warm.

Okay, that was kind of adorable.

It was easy to forget that despite his larger-than-life personality, there were some things he hadn’t seen and done.

Namely… women.

“Give me your hand,” I said, holding mine out.

He seemed reluctant, but pulled it out of his pocket and held it out to me. I lifted it to my nearest boob, and squeezed his palm, so he was gripping me. “Feel the way it bounces?” I checked, as we kept walking.

“Mmhm.” His voice was strained.

I let go of his hand. “Kind of weird, huh? Tits are obnoxious.”

“Not weird, or obnoxious.” His words were low and gravelly, and damn, they gave me the goosebumps. “Want me to let go?”

“If you want to.”

His fingers dug into the soft flesh, and I bit my lip to stop myself from groaning at the feel of it.

Things had always been intense, between me and Quake. Odin. I’d never even kissed a guy before him—I’d been assaulted by one of my foster dads, and I’d slept with a few random guys afterward, to prove to myself that I wasn’t broken.

But… I’d never been kissed before him.
